Infrared (IR) optic lens can be fabricated by a single point diamond turning (SPDT) machine without subsequent polishing process. However, this machining process often leaves microcracks that deteriorate the surface quality. In this work, we propose an experimental design to remove micro-cracks on IR lens. The proposed design gathered data between cutting process condition and Rt surface roughness. This is of great importance because the scale of microcracks is a few micrometer. Rt surface roughness is suitable for analyzing maximum peak height signals of the profile. The experimental results indicate that feed per revolution variable is one of the most dominant variable, affecting the generation micro-cracks on IR lens surfaces.

Recently, due to the construction of the metropolitan area and spread of new towns, application of district heating system has been increased. Since installation of facility for secondary user is usually being performed by construction companies or contractors, the systematic and efficient operation of user facility has not yet been set up. In this study, therefore, the effect of the speed control of the inverter on the heating and energy saving was investigated by using existing facilities. A variable speed control using differential pressure at the farthest building of heating system was applied to experimental field. From the experimental results, it was concluded that by using the variable speed control with smaller △p setting(0.6bar), the power consumption was drastically reduced by up to 73%. Therefore, the variable speed control using the differential pressure at the farthest building is recommendable, and a heating by variable speed control using the required appropriate minimum differential pressure was available.
