Rate of Oxygen Uptake in Antheraea mylitta in Various Stages of Development and during Diapause
Rath S. S.,Negi B. B. S.,Singh B. M. K.,Thangavelu K. Korean Society of Sericultural Science 2005 International Journal of Industrial Entomology Vol.10 No.1
Respiration in Antheraea mylitta was studied using constant pressure respirometer. Oxygen uptake in different stages of life showed that moth has highest rate of oxygen uptake as compared to larva and pupa. At each stage significant sexual differentiation was observed. Depression in the rate of oxygen uptake in diapausing pupa was found to be higher in male ($65.75\%$) than female ($60.65\%$) as compared to non-diapausing counterparts. During diapause lowest oxygen uptake was recorded in the month of February, and were in the order of February < January < December < March < November < April < May < June in male, and, February < January < December < March < April < November < May < June in female. Significant sexual differentiation in oxygen uptake was recorded throughout the period of diapause (November to June) where female pupae registered lower rate of oxygen uptake than that of male. Oxygen uptake in female pupae declined upto $28.89\%$ in non-diapausing and $18.29\%$ in diapausing broods over male. Highest respiratory quotient value was recorded in the moth of November (0.68 in male and 0.70 in female) and, the lowest in the month of March in male (0.54) and May in female (0.55). Percentage loss in pupa weight always remained at a significantly higher level in male (except in February and March). The lowest oxygen uptake rate and weight loss in the month of February shows that the pupae were at peak of their dormancy during this month.
EFFECT OF MAGNETIC FIELD ON LONGITUDINAL FLUID VELOCITY OF INCOMPRESSIBLE DUSTY FLUID
N. JAGANNADHAM,B.K. RATH,D.K. DASH The Korean Society for Computational and Applied M 2023 Journal of applied mathematics & informatics Vol.41 No.2
The effects of longitudinal velocity dusty fluid flow in a weak magnetic field are investigated in this paper. An external uniform magnetic field parallel to the flow of dusty fluid influences the flow of dusty fluid. Besides that, the problem under investigation is completely defined in terms of identifying parameters such as longitudinal velocity (u), Hartmann number (M), dust particle interactions β, stock resistance γ, Reynolds number (Re) and magnetic Reynolds number (Rm). While using suitable transformations of resemblance, The governing partial differential equations are transformed into a system of ordinary differential equations. The Hankel Transformation is used to solve these equations numerically. The effects of representing parameters on the fluid phase and particle phase velocity flow are investigated in this analysis. The magnitude of the fluid particle is reduced significantly. The result indicates the magnitude of the particle reduced significantly. Although some of our numerical solutions agree with some of the available results in the literature review, other results differs because of the effect of the introduced magnetic field.
Host Plant-Antheraea mylitta Interactions and Its Effect on Reproductive and Commercial Parameters
Rath, S.S.,Singh, G.S.,Singh, S.S.,Singh, M.K.,Suryanarayana, N.,Vijayaprakash, N.B. Korean Society of Sericultural Science 2008 International Journal of Industrial Entomology Vol.17 No.2
Impact of food plant on reproductive and commercial parameters in Antheraea mylitta, a polyphagous insect of economic importance was studied upon feeding the insect larvae on the same host plants for six continuous generations. A. mylitta larvae were fed upon Terminalia tomentosa, Terminalia arjuna and Zizyphus jujuba and restricted them to the same host plant for six generations to document the quantitative improvement in reproductive and commercial parameters. The parameters showed significant improvement in all the host plants studied over their respective controls. Fecundity among the reproductive parameters was highly improved than others (85.9% in T. tomentosa; 58% in T. arjuna and 49.7% in Z. jujuba). Likewise in commercial parameters, the shell weight in male showed the highest improvement (by 52.9%, 45.8% and 42.1% in T. tomentosa; T. arjuna and Z. jujuba respectively). On the other hand, the shell ratio percentage in female recorded the lowest improvement. The values for all characters were recorded a decline in T. arjuna and Z. jujuba fed ones over T. tomentosa, except that of shell ratio percentage in female has registered an increase in Z jujuba fed. The study thus revealed the comparative superiority of T. tomentosa over T. arjuna and Z. jujuba.
Nutritional Efficiency in Antheraea mylitta D. during Food Deprivation
Rath, S.S.,Sinha, B.R.R.P.,Thangavelu, K. Korean Society of Sericultural Science 2004 International Journal of Industrial Entomology Vol.9 No.1
Nutrition plays an important role in maintaining the larval health, cocoon quality and reproductive potential in Antheraea mylitta D. Nutritional efficiency greatly influenced if food is not adequate and of quality. A. mylitta silkworms were subjected to food deprivation for the period of 0 hr to 12 hrs /day to assess its effect on various nutritional parameters and indices, and its manifestation at different levels. Food ingesta, digesta, gain in body weight declined significantly at each level of deprivation, so also food utilization efficiency like consumption index (CI), growth rate (GR), approximate digestibility (AD), and efficiency of conversion of ingested food (ECI). This stress leads to decline in mean daily food ingesta by 16.73% to 39.76% and digesta by 28.98% to 54.01 % following a significant reduction in average daily body weight gain (27.68% to 55.09%). Food deprivation a1so caused significant loss in the silk gland weight, cocoon and shell weight (14.37% to 53.69%), lowered the fecundity (35.86 % to 83.59%) and in number of eggs laid per gram body weight, but simultaneously the number of non-chorionated eggs increased significantly.

Purpose: Adjuvant radiotherapy (RT) in buccal mucosa cancers is guided by histopathological factors. The decision to treat ipsilateral or bilateral draining lymph node is on physician discretion and guidelines do not have a defined indication regarding this. We aimed to analyze the failure patterns and survival in buccal mucosa cancers treated with adjuvant ipsilateral RT. Materials and Methods: One hundred sixteen cases of post-operative buccal mucosa cancers—pT3 or more, node positive, close margins (1-5 mm), lymphovascular invasion positive, perineural invasion positive, depth of invasion >4 mm—treated with RT to primary and ipsilateral nodes from May 2013 to May 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were treated to a dose of 60-66 Gy (44 Gy in the first phase and a coned down boost of 16-22 Gy in the second phase) with three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy on a linear accelerator. Primary end point was to assess control rates and secondary end point was to evaluate the overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) outcomes. Results: Median age was 46 years with male; female ratio of 110:6. The edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer stage distributions were I (3.4%), II (34.4%), III (24.1%), and IV (37.9%). At a median follow-up of 22 months, crude rates of local failure, regional failure, and contralateral neck failure were 9.4%, 10.3%, and 3.4%, respectively. The 2-year contralateral neck control rate was 94.9%. Pathological positive node portended poorer OS (86.6% vs. 68.6%; p = 0.015) and DFS (86.5% vs. 74.9%; p = 0.01). Conclusion: Incidence of contralateral recurrence with ipsilateral irradiation in buccal mucosa cancers is low with descent survival outcomes, particularly in node negative cases.
