We describe a measurement of the ratio of the cross sections times branching fractions of the B-c(+) meson in the decay mode B-c(+) -> J/psi mu(+)nu to the B+ meson in the decay mode B+ -> J/psi K+ in proton-antiproton collisions at center-of-mass energy root s = 1.96 TeV. The measurement is based on the complete CDF Run II data set, which comes from an integrated luminosity of 8.7 fb(-1). The ratio of the production cross sections times branching fractions for B-c(+) and B+ mesons with momentum transverse to the beam greater than 6 GeV/c and rapidity magnitude smaller than 0.6 is 0.211 +/- 0.012(stat)(-0.020)(+0.021)(syst). Using the known B+ -> J/psi K+ branching fraction, the known B+ production cross section, and a selection of the predicted B-c(+) -> J/psi mu(+nu) branching fractions, the range for the total B-c(+) production cross section is estimated.

We report a measurement of the ratio of the tt to Z/관{*} production cross sections in sqrt[s]=1.96??TeV pp collisions using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of up to 4.6??fb{-1}, collected by the CDF II detector. The tt cross section ratio is measured using two complementary methods, a b-jet tagging measurement and a topological approach. By multiplying the ratios by the well-known theoretical Z/관{*}?l cross section predicted by the standard model, the extracted tt cross sections are effectively insensitive to the uncertainty on luminosity. A best linear unbiased estimate is used to combine both measurements with the result ?{tt}=7.70±0.52??pb, for a top-quark mass of 172.5??GeV/c{2}.

We present a search for supersymmetric neutrino 관[over ?] production using the Tevatron pp[over ¯] collision data collected with the CDF II detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1??fb^{-1}. We focus on the scenarios predicted by the R-parity violating (RPV) supersymmetric models in which sneutrinos decay to two charged leptons of different flavor. With the data consistent with the standard model expectations, we set upper limits on ?(pp[over ¯]??over ?])×BR(관[over ?]?관,관?,e?) and use these results to constrain the RPV couplings as a function of the sneutrino mass.

Abstract

We present the result of a search for a massive color-octet vector particle, (e.g. a massive gluon) decaying to a pair of top quarks in proton–antiproton collisions with a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. This search is based on 1.9 fb−1 of data collected using the CDF detector during Run II of the Tevatron at Fermilab. We study tt¯ events in the lepton+jets channel with at least one b-tagged jet. A massive gluon is characterized by its mass, decay width, and the strength of its coupling to quarks. These parameters are determined according to the observed invariant mass distribution of top quark pairs. We set limits on the massive gluon coupling strength for masses between 400 and 800 GeV/c2 and width-to-mass ratios between 0.05 and 0.50. The coupling strength of the hypothetical massive gluon to quarks is consistent with zero within the explored parameter space.

We report on a CDF measurement of the total cross section and rapidity distribution, d sigma/dy, for gamma*/Z -> e(+)e(-) events in the Z boson mass region (66 < M-ee < 116 GeV/c(2)) produced in p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV with 2.1 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity. The measured cross section of 257 +/- 16 pb and d sigma/dy distribution are compared with Next-to-Leading-Order (NLO) and Next-to-Next-to-Leading-Order (NNLO) QCD theory predictions with CTEQ and MRST/MSTW parton distribution functions (PDFs). There is good agreement between the experimental total cross section and d sigma/dy measurements with theoretical calculations with the most recent NNLO PDFs. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V.
A search for a Higgs boson with suppressed couplings to fermions, h(f), assumed to be the neutral, lower-mass partner of the Higgs boson discovered at the Large Hadron Collider, is reported. Such a Higgs boson could exist in extensions of the standard model with two Higgs doublets, and could be produced via p (p) over bar -> H(+/-)h(f) -> W*h(f)h(f) -> 4 gamma + X where H (+/-) is a charged Higgs boson. This analysis uses all events withat least three photons in the final state from proton-antiproton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9.2 fb(-1). No evidence of a signal is observed in the data. Values of Higgs-boson masses between 10 and 100 GeV/c(2) are excluded at 95% Bayesian credibility.

We present a measurement of the ZZ-boson pair-production cross section in 1.96 TeV center-of-mass energy p (p) over bar collisions. We reconstruct final states incorporating four charged leptons or two charged leptons and two neutrinos from the full data set collected by the Collider Detector experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron, corresponding to 9.7 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity. Combining the results obtained from each final state, we measure a cross section of 1.04(-0.25)(+0.32) pb, in good agreement with the standard model prediction at next-to-leading order in the strong-interaction coupling.

Drell-Yan lepton pairs are produced in the process p (p) over bar -> mu(+)mu(-) + X through an intermediate gamma*/Zboson. The forward-backward asymmetry in the polar-angle distribution of the mu(-) as a function of the invariant mass of the mu(+)mu(-) pair is used to obtain the effective leptonic determination sin(2)theta(lept)(eff) of the electroweakmixing parameter sin(2)theta w, from which the value of sin(2)theta w is derived assuming the standard model. The measurement sample, recorded by the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF), corresponds to 9.2 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity from p (p) over bar collisions at a center-of-momentum energy of 1.96 TeV, and is the full CDF Run II data set. The value of sin(2)theta(lept)(eff) is found to be 0.2315 +/- 0.0010, where statistical and systematic uncertainties are combined in quadrature. When interpreted within the context of the standard model using the on-shell renormalization scheme, where sin(2)theta w = 1 - M-W(2)/M-Z(2), the measurement yields sin(2)theta w = 0.2233 +/- 0.0009, or equivalently a W-boson mass of 80.365 +/- 0.047 GeV/c(2). The value of the W-boson mass is in agreement with previous determinations in electron- positron collisions and at the Tevatron collider.
