Intramolecular [2+2] Photocycloaddition and Cycloreversion of Ferulic Acid Derivatives
Maeda, Hajime,Nishimura, Keisuke,Yokoyama, Akihiro,Sugimoto, Akira,Mizuno, Kazuhiko,Hosoda, Asao,Nomura, Eisaku,Taniguchi, Hisaji Korean Society of Photoscience 2015 Rapid communication in photoscience Vol.4 No.1
Intramolecular photocycloaddition of ferulic acid derivatives proceeded in high yields to give head-to-head intramolecular photodimers as three atropisomers. The photocycloaddition was sensitized by triplet sensitizers such as benzophenone, whereas photocycloreversion was promoted by 9,10-dicyanoanthracene (DCA) as an electron-transfer photocatalyst. On the other hand, intermolecular photocycloaddition afforded a head-to-tail photodimer.

<P>This study examines the effects of cyclodextrin (CD) on the photophysical properties of 1,8-naphthalimide (NI) derivatives including NI–linker–phenothiazine (NI–L–PTZ) dyads in a H2O/CH3CN solution (v/v = 9 : 1). Peculiar excimer and exciplex emissions were observed with reference NI and NI–L–PTZ, respectively, in an aqueous environment. The NI–CD complexes exhibited monomeric emission spectral features, which resulted from their inclusion into the CD cavity. The complex formation constants of CDs with the NI derivatives were determined. The T1–T<I>n</I> absorption band of 3NI* was observed at around 470 nm during nanosecond-laser flash photolysis. Photoinduced electron transfer in NI–L–PTZ led to NI&z.rad;− and PTZ&z.rad;+ from the T1 state. In protic polar solvents, NI&z.rad;− easily formed a ketyl radical (NIH&z.rad;) by hydrogen abstraction from H2O, and showed a transient absorption band at around 400 nm. The charge recombination (CR) time of the transient species at 400 nm showed a strong CD dependency, and the CR time of the dyad in γ-CD was increased markedly compared with in β-CD. This suggests that the PTZ moiety can also be included in the γ-CD cavity.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>This study examines the effects of cyclodextrin on the photophysical properties of 1,8-naphthalimide derivatives. <IMG SRC='http://pubs.rsc.org/services/images/RSCpubs.ePlatform.Service.FreeContent.ImageService.svc/ImageService/image/GA?id=c3cp54803a'> </P>

Experimental investigations of interlaminar mechanical properties for carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) laminates were carried out using aramid fiber ($Kevlar^{(R)}$-29 1000d) and carbon fiber (TR40-1K 612d, Mitsubishi Rayon) stitching. Various carbon fiber (CF) stitch densities were used to prepare a number of CF stitched CFRP laminates for double cantilever beam (DCB) tests. An insert tongue-type loading fixture, developed by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (formerly the National Aerospace Laboratory of Japan), was also employed in the DCB test. Interlaminar tension tests were carried out under an out-of-plane directional loading using a single CF stitch thread in the CFRP laminates. The DCB test results clarified that the relationship between the volume fractions of the CF stitch thread ($V_{ft}$) and mode I critical energy release rate ($G_{Ic}$) showed a mostly linear function with a higher gradient than that of the $Kevlar^{(R)}$ stitched CFRP laminates. The CF stitched CFRP tension test results indicated that the consumption energy per unit area ($E_i$) was larger than that of $Kevlar^{(R)}$ stitched CFRP laminates.

Frictional problems in superconducting magnets are related to the stability and reliability of the magnets, because frictional heating causes quench of the manger and the frictional resistance determines the limit of the shear force at the contacting sufaces. In addition to these problems, magnet structural materials are exposed with neutron and γ-ray in Deutrium- Tritum type fusion reactor, so that it is required to investigate the frictional behavior for irradiated magnet structural materials at cryogenic temperatures. In this study, we investigated the influence of γ-irradiated MoS2 coating film and GFRP AT 4.2 K 77K AND 293 K under fretting conditions.
