Dong-Won Lee,Hyung Gon Jin,Kyu In Shin,Eo Hwak Lee,Suk-Kwon Kim,Jae Sung Yoon,Mu-Young Ahn,Seungyon Cho IEEE 2014 IEEE transactions on plasma science Vol.42 No.5

Korea has developed a helium cooled ceramic reflector (HCCR) test blanket module (TBM) for testing in a ITER, which consists of functional components to distribute the He coolant to each region such as the first wall (FW), breeding zone (BZ), side wall (SW), and back manifold (BM). In this paper, the detailed design of each component is introduced as follows: 1) FW considering cooling under a structural material temperature limit (550 °C); 2) BZ layer for obtaining tritium breeding ratio and cooling with a breeder, reflector, and multiplier pebbles; 3) SW considering the flow distribution to BZ and internal pressure; 4) BM for uniform flow to FW cooling channels; and 5) He purge line in BZ considering a purge gas distribution in BZ. From the performance analysis of each functional component using the CFD code, ANSYS-CFX with the results of nuclear heating from a neutronic analysis, the results show that the design requirements of KO HCCR TBM were satisfied.

Background/Aims: Endoscopic papillectomy is increasingly performed with curative intent for benign papillary tumors. This study was performed to identify factors that predict the presence of malignancy and affect endoscopic success. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the medical records of patients who received an endoscopic papillectomy for papillary adenoma from 2006 to 2009. Results: A total of 43 patients received endoscopic papillectomy. The pathologic results after papillectomy revealed adenocarcinoma in five patients (12%), and the risk of malignancy was high in cases of large lesions, preprocedural pathology of high-grade dysplasia or high serum alkaline phosphatase. Endoscopic success was observed in 37 patients (86%) at the end of follow-up (mean duration, 10.4±9.6 months). The factor significantly affecting success was a complete resection at the initial papillectomy (p=0.007). Two patients experienced recurrence 10 and 32 months after the complete resection, but both achieved endoscopic success with repeated endoscopic treatment. Six patients with endoscopic failure received surgical resection. Conclusions: Endoscopic papillectomy is a safe and effective method for the curative resection of benign papillary tumors, especially when complete resection is achieved at the initial papillectomy. Follow-up with surveillance should be performed for at least 3 years because of the possible recurrence of tumors during these periods. (Gut Liver 2013;7:239-245)

The nano-sized cobalt powders were prepared using a pulsed wire evaporation method. The cobalt powder had a spherical shape with a diameter of less than 200 nm. A cobalt electrode was prepared from the nano-sized cobalt powder, acetylene black and polyvinylidene fluoride. During the first discharge, the Li/Co cell showed a plateau potential of 0.7V and a capacity of 440mAh/g. The nano-sized Co electrode had a stable reversible lithium storage capacity of approximately 280mAh g-1 after 30 cycles.
A New Approach to Determine the Direction and Cause of Voltage Sag
Ahn, Seon-Ju,Won, Dong-Jun,Chung, Il-Yop,Moon, Seung-Il The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers 2008 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.3 No.3
Event source locating is very important to improving the power quality level. This paper presents a method to determine the relative location of the voltage sag source according to the cause. For this, the concept of the relative location of the source is defined first. Then, the main causes of voltage sag are classified and their characteristics are discussed. From these investigations, the rules to determine the relative location of event source are proposed for each type and the overall algorithm to identify the relative location and the kind of event source is presented. Finally, the proposed method is applied to the IEEE 13-bus test system and it is verified that the method can help to pinpoint the accurate location of the event source.
Sulfonated Dextran/Poly(vinyl alcohol) Polymer Electrolyte Membranes for Direct Methanol Fuel Cells
Won, Jong-Ok,Ahn, Su-Mi,Cho, Hyun-Dong,Ryu, Ji-Young,Ha, Heung-Yong,Kang, Yong-Soo The Polymer Society of Korea 2007 Macromolecular Research Vol.15 No.5
Polymer electrolyte membranes, featuring ionic channels, were prepared from sulfonated dextran/ poly(vinyl alcohol) (sD/PVA) membranes. A stiff sulfated dextran was chosen as the route for ionic transport, since ionic sites are located along the stiff dextran main chain. The sD/PVA blend membranes were annealed and then chemically crosslinked. The characteristics of the crosslinked sD/PVA membranes were investigated to determine their suitability as proton exchange membranes. The proton conductivity was found to increase with increasing amounts of sD inside the membrane, which reached a maximum and then decreased when the sD content exceeded 30 wt%, while the methanol permeability increased with increasing sD content. The good dispersion of sD inside the membrane, which serves as an ionic channels mimic, played a significant role in proton transportation.

The wall of normal proximal bile duct is occasionally thin with close approximation to the right hepatic artery. Thus, isolation of this hepatic artery can result in excessive weakening of the remnant proximal bile duct wall during hemiliver graft harvest. This type of injury can induce ischemic stricture of the donor common bile duct. This study aimed to review the clinical sequences of such ischemic type donor bile duct injuries primarily managed with endoscopic and radiological interventional treatments. A retrospective review of medical records was performed for two living donors who suffered from ischemic type donor bile duct injury. They were followed up for more than 10 years. The right and left liver grafts were harvested from these two donors. Bile duct anatomy was normal bifurcation in one and anomalous branching in the other. Bile duct stenosis was detected in them at 2 weeks and 1 week after liver donation. They underwent endoscopic balloon dilatation and temporary stent (endoscopic retrograde biliary drainage tube) insertion. After keeping the tube for 2 months, the tube was successfully removed in one donor. However, endoscopic treatment was not successful, thus additional radiological intervention was necessary in the other donor. On follow-up over 10 years, they are doing well so far with no recurrence of biliary stricture. Based on our limited experience, interventional treatment with subsequent long-term follow-up appears to be an essential and choice treatment for ischemic type biliary stricture occurring in liver living donors.

A solid-state dye-sensitized solar cell (ssDSSC) with 7.4% efficiency at 100 mW/cm(2) is reported. This efficiency is one of the highest observed for N719 dye. High performance is achieved via a honeycomb-like, organized mesoporous TiO2 photoanode with dual pores, high porosity, good interconnectivity, and excellent light scattering properties. The TiO2 photoanodes are prepared without any TiCl4 treatment via a one-step, direct self-assembly of hydrophilically preformed TiO2 nanocrystals and poly(vinyl chloride)-g-poly(oxyethylene methacrylate) (PVC-g-POEM) graft copolymer as a titania source and a structure-directing agent, respectively. Upon controlling the secondary forces between the polymer/TiO2 hybrid and the solvent by varying the amounts of HCl/H2O mixture or toluene, honeycomb-like structures are generated to improve light scattering properties. Such multifunctional nanostructures with dual pores provide good pore-filling of solid polymer electrolyte with large volume, enhanced light harvesting and reduced charge recombination, as confirmed by reflectance spectroscopy, incident photon-to-electron conversion efficiency (IPCE), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) analysis.
