We studied the differences in the MIC distribution of E. coli isolates from a doctorlezs-remote area (Kwang Won Do province=KWD), a leprosarium (So Rock Go island=SRDj, and Seoul Iiational University Hospita: (SKUH) against amFiciliin mecilliaam, cefoperazcne and lactamoxef. So the widespread and prolonged use of antimicrobial agents is presumed to facilitate the increase of drug-resistant strains among the normal flora of the residents in a cornmunit? that the isolates from SNUH m-ere further divided into two groups, SNUH in-patient (I?] and SKUH out-patient (OP) and 'the isolates from SRD into DCS (isolates from leprcsy patients who are taking DDS only) and Rf (isolates from leprosy patients who are taking rifampicin and DGS) groups. Number of E. coEi isolates studied were 33 strains from SNUR patients (SNUH-OP, 47), 150 strains from SRD patients (SRC-DCS, 102; SRD Rf, 4P), a i d 120 strains from KWD residents.. Distribution of E. coli strains according to their respective MICs shons that E. coii po-ssessex not oniy an intrinsic component in resistance (or susceptibility) to the drugs (azi-picillin, 1--8,ug/ml: meciilinam, @.12S--l,ug/m!; cefoperazone, 0. GGy0.-.5pgjml; lactanoxo,f, 0.06-Q.5pgjml) but also a distinct MIC value of acquired resistance quite Cifiei-ent fion: the intrinsic one in the case of ampicillin (2250pg/'ml). The facts t h a t the carriage rate of ampicillin resistant strains in.the hospital patiezts x\as the highest alliong the study groups and more specifically that those of the out patient as not less than those of the in-patient and that those of residents of doctorless-remote area va3 the least suggest that ampicillin resistarce in Korea is a localized problem in some community rather than a nation-wide one. That the MIC distributions of the resistant strains to mecillinam ard/or cefoperaxore were quite different from those of ampicillin is consistent not only with the fact that me- cillinam and cef operazone are less beta lactamase-stable than lactamoxef is. but also suggest5 that there is more than one kind of relevant beta-lactamase in Korean E. coZi strains.
혐기성(嫌氣性) 소화방식(消化方式)에 의한 분뇨(糞尿)와 정화조(淨化槽)슬러지의 혼합처리(混合處理) 실험(實驗)에 관한 연구(硏究)

본(本) 연구(硏究)는 분뇨처리(糞尿處理)의 효율화( 效率化) 방안(方案)으로 정화조(淨化槽)슬러지와 생분뇨(生糞尿)를 현존(現存) 소화식(消化式) 분뇨처리장(糞尿處理場)에서 혼합처리(混合處理)할 수 있는 방안(方案)을 검토(檢討)할 목적(目的)으로 분뇨(糞尿) : 정화조(淨化槽)슬러지의 혼합비율(混合比率)을 9 : 1(#1), 7 : 3(#2)으로 하여 처리도(處理度) 실험(實驗)을 수행(遂行)하였다. 실험결과(實驗結果) 유기물(有機物)의 제법효율(除法效率)은 9 : 1(#1)의 비율(比率)에서 BOD 80%, COD 80%, TS 63%, VS 76%이었으며 7 : 3(#2)의 비율(比率)에서는 BOD 87%, COD 82%, TS 66%, VS 78%로 정화조슬러지를 분뇨처리장에서 혼합처리(混合處理)할 수 있는 충분(充分)한 가능성(可能性)을 보여주었다. This study was performed to increase the treatment efficiency of the existing anaerobic digestion facilities of the nightsoil treatment plants. Bench-scale anaerobic digesters were operated to evaluate the effect of the ratio (7:3 and 9:1) of the mixture of nightsoil and septic tank sludge on treatment efficiency. The laboratory experiments have demonstrated that the ratio of the mixture does have an effect on the organic removal efficiency. The nightsoil to septage ratio of 7 to 3 appears to yield a higher efficiency than the ratio of 9 to 1. The percent removals of 7 to 3 ratio are 87 % BOD, 82 % COD, 66 % TS, and 78 %. VS whereas those of 9 to 1 ratio are 80 % BOD, 80 % COD, 63 % TS, and 76 % VS. This study also showed that the mixed treatment of the nightsoil and septic tank sludge will be possible at the nightsoil treatment plant.
