Vol.22 No.1
One of the important goals of health campaigns is to increase susceptibility perception, which implies the likelihood of being at risk for a particular disease. To this end, health communication scholars have studied various methods, one of which is message framing. This study attempted to investigate the effects of positive or negative message framing when combined with other types of numbers (frequency vs. probability). As a result, frequency type was more persuasive than probability type. In addition, under the positive framing message situation, there is no difference in preventive behavior according to the presented number type (frequency vs probability), whereas in the case of negative framing message, the risk information presented as frequency induces the preventive action intention compared to the risk information presented with probability.
