이 논문은 영미 저널리즘과 프랑스 저널리즘의 특징과 그 차이점을 고찰한 것이다. 현재 논쟁의 쟁점은 프랑스 현대 저널리즘의 형성은 19세기 말 사실과 객관성을 바탕으로 한 뉴스 중심의 영미 저널리즘으로부터 영향을 받은 것이라는 주장과 프랑스 저널리즘은 본래 문학과 정치와 깊은 연관 속에서 시작하고 발전되어 온 만큼 이 두 장르가 프랑스 저널리즘의 특징을 이루어 왔으며 따라서 프랑스 현대 저널리즘은 바로 프랑스적인 것이라는 주장이다. 따라서 이 논문은 프랑스 저널리즘의 전통인 정치와 문학이 어떻게 프랑스 저널리즘의 발전에 영향을 주었는지를 살피는 데 중점을 두고 있다. 대체적으로 프랑스 저널리즘은 뉴스 보도보다 사상과 정파의 교리를 전하고 선전하기 위한 도구로서 활용되어 왔고 또한 작가가 되기 위한 통로로 이용되어 왔다. 그러므로 프랑스에서 저널리스트가 곧 작가이고 정치인이었다. 이처럼 프랑스 신문은 본래 문학의 비평과 정치 선전을 위해 창간되었기 때문에 그 발전 과정은 영미 저널리즘과 매우 달랐던 것이다. 말하자면 프랑스 저널리즘은 문학에서 사실적인 보도 방식을 발견했고 정치에서 비평의 방식을 발전시켰던 것이다. 이것이 바로 오늘 프랑스적인 현대 저널리즘의 특징을 이루고 있으며 ‘영미 저널리즘의 영향’이란 주장은 사실상 프랑스 저널리즘의 전통을 무시한 결과인 것이다. This article considers the distinctions and differences of the French journalism and British-American journalism. Nowadays, A points in disputes about the modern French journalism consists in an argument that one has been influenced by British-American Journalism and the other resulted from a development of traditional French journalism francized. Thus, this article puts emphasis on how politics and literature in France had influenced French journalism. In the nineteenth century, the French journalism had been a instrument to propagate the political thought and to spread the doctrine of a political party as well as the vehicle to become a writer. Therefore, in France, a journalist was just a writer or a politician and French journalism invented a method to report real news from the literature, developed a way of comment from the politics. These made a feature of the modern French journalism. Therefore, I argue British-American journalism which has maintained the values of news based on an objectivity and facts had influence on the modern French journalism, resulted from disregarding the tradition of the French journalism.
