노년 계층이 인식하는 ‘잘 늙어감’의 의미에 관한 현상학적 접근

본 연구의 목적은 그동안 논의되어온 다양한 노화담론들의 이해를 바탕으로 실제 노인들이 인식하는 잘 늙어감의 의미를 탐색하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 적극적으로 자신의 삶을 주도하며 활기찬 노년기를 살아가고 있는 65세 이상 남녀노인 5명을 대상으로 현상학적 연구방법을 통해 그들의 일상적 모습과 경험적 진술들을 분석함으로써 그들이 이해하고 지향하는 잘 늙어감의 실제적 의미를 밝히고자 하였다. 연구결과, 신체적 정서적 사회적 영적 영역의 개념적 정의를 기반으로 하는 잘 늙어감의 실제적 의미가 도출되었으며 각각 ‘육체적 유한성의 인정을 통한 적극적 일상의 구성’ ‘학습을 통한 무한한 가능성의 지속적 탐색’ ‘사회적 관계 맺기 방식의 변화’ ‘영적 성장을 위한 노력’으로 구체화되었다. 즉, 잘 늙어감이란 유한한 삶에 대한 능동적인 인식을 바탕으로 지속적인 탐색과정을 통해 긍정적인 자기인식과 타인의 인정으로 삶을 균형 있게 구성함으로써 노화를 성장과 변화의 과정으로 인식하며 적극적인 일상의 주체로 살아감을 의미하는 것으로 종합해 볼 수 있다. 이는 본 연구에서 주목한 세 가지 노화담론들-생산적, 성공적, 활동적 노화-의 관점에서 볼 때, 잘 늙어감에 대한 노인계층의 실제 인식을 이해하는 데에 있어 다음과 같은 추가적 논의를 제안하고 있다. 즉, 생산적 노화나 성공적 노화에서 주로 경제적 비생산성을 강조하는 시각에서 벗어나 사회적 생산이라는 보다 확장된 관점에서 그들을 여전히 생산적인 존재로 재인식할 필요성이 있음을 보여주고 있다. 또한 활동과 건강의 연결성을 강조하며 노인들의 지식과 역량에 주목한 활동적 노화의 현실화를 위해 노년기 평생교육의 체계적 논의의 필요성을 확인할 수 있다. 나아가 건강하고 활기찬 노년의 삶을 위해 일상의 구체적 실천전략 및 프로그램 개선의 방향성을 제시함으로써 변화와 성장을 추구하는 평생교육의 실천현장에 의미 있는 시사 점을 제공할 수 있을 것이다. The purpose of this study is to explore the meaning of ‘aging well’ that the elderlies are recognizing in their everyday life. To achieve this purpose, this study selected five elderly men and women over 65 years old and investigated their active daily life using the phenomenological method. Analyzing their experiences, this study would examine what they understood and pursue as aging well. As a result, this study proposed four categories to help define the meaning of aging well such as physical, emotional, social, and spiritual. The elderly men and women recognized aging well as ‘constructing daily life actively based on recognizing the limitations of their physical bodies,’ ‘exploring infinite possibilities through learning continuously,’ ‘changing the mode and method of making social relationships,’ and ‘making efforts for spiritual growth,’ In other words, aging well means that the elderlies should continuously explore and accept themselves and the others by recognizing the limits of physical bodies positively. Also, they need to consider aging as the process of growing and changing from the positive perspective and construct their daily lives more actively as a main agent of their life. These results may provide implications on the field of lifelong education by giving directions for practical strategies improving lifelong education programs for the elderly.

본 연구는 무용수의 전문성 발달과정 및 특성을 분석하여 전문성을 향상시키는 핵심요인이 무엇인지 탐색하기 위해 수행되었다. 이를 위해 발레 및 현대무용 분야의 최고 수준 무용수 6인을 대상으로 심층면담을 실시하여 전사된 자료의 테마분석을 실행하였고, 이들이 겪은 다양한 성장과정은 다음과 같이 3단계의 발달과정과 특성, 핵심요인으로 도출되었다. 첫째, 무용수의 전문성 발달과정은 ``기술적 전문성 습득 단계``, ``독자적 전문성 모색 단계``, ``창의적 전문성 탐색 단계``의 3단계로 구분되었다. 먼저, 기술적 전문성 습득 단계에서는 기본적인 무용 기술과 테크닉을 습득하여 한 명의 무용수(a dancer)로 성장하게 되며, "결정경험", "춤추는 기계(dancing machine)", "오디션 그리고 데뷔"라는 과정을 거친다. 다음으로 독자적 전문성 모색 단계에서는 신체의 움직임에 대한 자각과 독특한 색깔을 담아내기 위한 해석, 표현을 통해 자신만의 개성을 보유한 무용수(unique dancer)로 발돋움하게 된다. 이 단계에서는 "무용이라는 언어", "아무개라는 고유한 무용수(the dancer)", "무대 위 주인공"이라는 특징을 보인다. 마지막으로 창의적 전문성 탐색 단계에서는 뛰어난 무용수이자 무용을 창조하는 사람으로 성장하게 된다. 이 단계에서는 "왜 무용을 하는가?"와 같은 "무용에 대한 근원적 물음"을 제기하고, "무용에 몰입"하며, "무용수로 태어난 사람"으로 성장한다. 둘째, 무용수의 전문성 발달과정 중 상위 단계로 성장할 수 있는 핵심요인으로 ``양가적 마음(ambivalence)``을 제시한다. 무용수들은 신체를 통해 자신의 예술 세계를 표현하는 만큼 뼈를 깎는 고통을 감수하며 자신의 몸을 단련하는 일이 무엇보다 중요하다. 최고 수준의 공연을 위해 끊임없이 몸을 만들고 다듬어야 하는 무용수들은 무대 위에서나 무대를 벗어난 일상에서나 늘 자기관리에 대한 부담감을 이겨내야 하는 만큼 그 어느 분야보다도 강인한 정신력이 요구된다고 할 수 있다. 고된 훈련과 부상, 공백과 좌절, 더 이상 발전하지 않을 것 같은 기술적 한계, 노력한 만큼 보상받지 못한 것 같은 아쉬움, 배신감에 너무 힘들어 그만 두고 싶지만, 막상 춤을 벗어나서는 살 수 없고 다른 것은 생각한 적도 생각할 수도 없다는 이들의 양가적 마음은 어린 시절 단순한 호감으로 시작된 그들의 전문성을 최고 수준의 창의적 전문가 반열에 오르게 한 동력이자, 새로운 핵심요인의 하나로 설명할 수 있을 것이다. 본 연구결과를 토대로 향후 최고 수준의 무용수를 양성하기 위한 교육 프로그램 개발과 환경 조성, 무용 교육자나 안무가 등 무용 분야 전문인의 전문성 발달과정에 대한 연구를 통해 무용 분야의 발전을 위한 연구와 실천의 기틀을 마련해야 할 것이다. The purpose of this study is to investigate the main characteristics that are shown during developmental process of the expertise dancer. For that, the interview data which was conducted for the 6 experts who were proposed and selected as highly qualified dancing experts by top experts in the field was used in this research, and the characteristics were analyzed using theme analysis. The findings of the study were as follows. First, developmental process of the expertise dancer were divided into three phases; ``a dancer``, ``the dancer``, and ``unique dancer``. Details of characteristics of phase were (1) individually crystallizing experience in early childhood, (2) making a body and trained as a dancer in order for acquiring technical performance through deliberated intensive practice, (3) Auditioning for having a chance of the first stage as a professional, (4) recognizing his/her enthusiasm toward creativity and developing uniqueness as a dancer, (5) delving deeper into performing a dance and much more training himself/herself in order to look for his/her own world as a unique dancer, (6) experiencing highly qualified immersion and rapport during performing a dance on a stage, (7) showing creative expertise and continuously looking for the answer to the question of the reason why he/she has become a dancer, (8) recognizing a endless thirst for dancing and trying to resolve that through searching something different from a dance, (9) completing his/her own dance as a performing artist and feeling it his/her duty and destiny to dance. Second, the core factor which makes a dancer reach a superior one in terms of performance might be ambivalence. It is complicated emotion of having love and hatred including tendency, an attitude which can be in conflict with an inconsistency about a certain target. More researches will be able to find some meaningful characteristics of the highest leveled performance through far more diverse cases in the itemized dancing field in the future.
