The over-preparation of blood for elective surgery causes some problems such as returning of blood, inefficient task and loss of reagents. In recent blood transfusion practice, there has been changing patterns of blood use in elective surgery as various side effects of transfusion have become known and operation techniques are developed. This study was performed to evaluate the optimal utilization of blood for various elective and/or emergency surgery. We surveyed the quantity of blood transmitted to wards, returned to blood bank, and the number of crossmatching test done for the elective surgery of the patients at the D. University Hospital, the tertiary teaching hospital from August 1, 2001 to October 31, 2001. Crossmatched to transfusion ratio (C/T ratio) was calculated, in which C means the unit of accomplished crossmatching test and T means the unit of transfused blood component. The unit of transfused blood was analysed in terms of issuing time, sex, age, clinical department, and blood component type. The usage of bloods for the emergency surgery was also analyzed. In our study, C/T ratio was highest on Monday (1.54) and Tuesday (1.53), and higher in female patients(1.54) than in male patients (1.32). No significant relationship was observed between age groups. Among clinical departments, thoracic and cardiovascular surgery showed the highest C/T ratio (1.54). From above results, we could be sure that the management of transfusion practice was relatively appropriate in recent years, although the entire introduction of type and screen (T&S) method was desirable. If the T&S method is performed, the C/T ratio would be almost 1.00 and it would also relieve the duty of blood bank.

A 13-year-old male with normal immunity presented with Aspergillus brain abscess manifestating as frontal headache and fever. $T_2$-weight magnetic resonance imaging revealed a hypointense lesion in the right fronto-temporo-parietal lobe 1cm thickness and left midline shifting. The hypointense appearance on $T_2$-weighted images appears to be characteristic of aspergillosis. Right decompressive craniectomy and removal of subdural empyema right. Abscess culture was Aspergillus fumigatus. Antibiotic treatment with Amphotericin B was given for 2 months postoperatively. No recurrence was identified during 5 month follow-up.

The purpose of present study is not only to develop a simple method to improve pump performance but also to suppress the occurrence of cavitation in the centrifugal pump by use of J-Groove. Semi-closed impeller is a newly developed centrifugal impeller in which inlet shape of the front shroud is modified. J-Groove is a shallow groove installed on the casing wall in the meridional direction. The results show that the application of the new type impeller of semi-closed impeller with J-Groove to a centrifugal pump has proved its effectiveness as a useful countermeasure of the unstable pump performance and cavitation. The combination of semi -closed impeller and J-Groove can be applied successfully and improves both the pump performance and suction performance.
극저비속도영역에서 원심펌프의 불안정성능 개선에 관한 연구

The ratio of disk friction loss in a centrifugal pump is very large for the total pump oss in the range of very low specific speed. Therefore, impeller radius should be shortened to increase the pump efficiency because the disk friction loss is proportional to the fifth power of impeller radius. In order to compensate the decreased head by the shortened impeller radius, vane angle at impeller outlet should be increased. However, as the vane angle at impeller outlet becomes larger, performance instability occurs at low flow rate regions. In this study, J-Groove is adopted to suppress the performance instability and detailed examination is performed for the influence of the J-Groove on the pump performance. The results show that J-Groove gives good effect on the suppression of performance instability. Moreover, as J-Groove increases pump head considerably, the pump size can be smaller.
유효낙차에 따른 80kW급 횡류수차의 성능 및 내부유동 해석

Recently, small hydropower attracts attention because of its clean, renewable and abundant energy resources to develop. However, suitable turbine type is not determined yet in the range of small hydropower and it is necessary to study for the effective turbine type. Therefore, a 80kW-Class cross-flow turbine is adopted in this study because of its simple structure and high possibility of applying to small hydropower. The result shows that as effective head increases, tangential and radial flow velocities increase and thus, the increased tangential velocity contributes to the increase of angular momentum and output torque. 최근 신재생에너지 연구개발과 관련하여 소수력발전에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있지만, 기존의 대수력용 수차 시스템과는 달리 소수력에 적당한 수차의 설계법이 아직 확립되어 있지 않기 때문에 고성능의 소수력용 수차의 개발이 요구되고 있다. 그러나, 복잡한 터빈의 구조에 의한 상대적으로 높은 제작단가는 소수력발전용 터빈의 개발에 큰 걸림돌로 작용하고 있다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 수차의 형상이 상대적으로 간단하고 소수력자원에 적용하기가 용이한 80kW급 횡류형 수차에 대하여 유효낙차 변화에 따른 성능 및 내부유동에 대해서 검토하였다. 유효낙차가 증가함에 따라서 원주방향 및 반경방향 속도비가 증가하게 되며, 증가한 원주속도에 의해 각운동량이 증가하여 출력도 커지게 된다.

It has been known that one of the main obstacles of improving the performance of positive displacement hydraulic turbine is pressure pulsation which occurs at the regions upstream and downstream of the turbine. In order to suppress the pressure pulsation. occurrence reason of the pressure pulsation should be understood in detail Therefore. this study aims to establish a CFD analysis method by which the phenomena of unsteady pressure pulsation can be examined with high accuracy. Internal flow field of the turbine is modeled simply to generalize the relation between the pressure pulsation and internal flow. The results show that the Present CFD method adopting unsteady calculation can be applied successfully to the analysis of the Phenomena of Pressure Pulsation. Occurrence of the Pressure pulsation is due to the difference of the rotational speed of turbine rotors When driving rotor rotates by uniform speed and fellowing rotor rotates by variable speed, very large Pressure pulsation occurs within the turbine periodically.
