Silica nanotubes were fabricated via the sol-gel process in reverse microemulsion system. The cylindrical reverse micelles as the soft template were formed with sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate (AOT) and ferric chloride (FeCl₃) in heptane, and the sol-gel process at the water0oil interface of the cylindrical reverse micelles generated silica nanotubes. FeCl₃ plays an important role in the formation of the AOT cylindrical reverse micelles. A photoluminescence (PL) spectrum of silica nanotubes displayed three emission bands. Especially, a stable and strong blue emission was obaerved at 435㎚.
