In shear wall type apartment construction, transfer slab has been partially used to maximize the use of ground level space. Recently, transfer slab is also used under pit level to maximize the use of underground parking place underneath the apartment. In this paper, structural behavior of transfer slab used in shear wall type apartment with piloti is analyzed and practical design method for transfer slab is proposed. The paper is expected to provide not only a better understanding of mechanical characteristic of transfer slab, but also a useful reference for the economic design of transfer slab.

The purpose of this research is to contribute to a more widespread application of post-tensioning to building structure such as underground parking structure. Post-tensioning is a well-known method for reducing structural depth and resisting to super-imposed heavy load. For underground parking structure, roof slab is loaded by heavy live load such as landscaping and vehicle load under construction. In this study, it is shown that post-tensioned flat slab system is more economic method comparing to beam-column system which is mostly used in underground parking structure.

This research is about applying post-tensioning to void slab system not only to reduce building weight but also to realize long-span structure. In this study, we are investigating the potential economic benefits and evaluating vibration characteristics of post-tensioned void slab. The structural performance of post-tensioned void slab was evaluated by carrying out the detailed post-tension design and vibration analysis. For post-tension design and modal vibration analysis, ADAPT-Floor Pro 2010 was used to carry out footfall analysis and acceptability check.

It is important to assure deformation compatibility of expanded RC building for safe seismic design because the seismic detail of existing building is not defined by current seismic design code. In the present study, the analytic method to calculate plastic deformation requirement of RC structural member is proposed. Deformation compatibility of expanded RC building can be assured by comparing deformation requirement calculated by the proposed method with the deformation capacity defined by FEMA 356.
