This survey was carried out to investigate the prevalence of bovine coronavirus (BCV) infection for the calves in Seosan-Taean Area. A total of 75 samples were collected from fecal swab to detect BCV by RTPCR Results obtained through the survey were as follows; By RT-PCR (455bp) BCV was detected from 13 of the 75 sample of fecal swab from calves. The calves under 3 month showed the highest BCV detection rate.

TThis survey was carried out to investigate the prevalence of the antibody for bovine paratuberculosis (Johne`s disease) in dairy cattle in Seosan-Taean area. From February to August in 2009, 254 M.R.T. samples were collected from 57 farms in the regions and enzyme immuno-sorbent assay (ELISA) was conducted. Among 254 samples, 13 (5.1%) M.R.T. samples of 3 (5.2%) farms were positive by ELISA. In regional analysis, 1 (3.1%) of 34 farms in Seasan and 2 (8.6%) of 23 farms in Taean were positive in ELISA. According to the raising scale of dairy farms, the farm with below 30 heads showed the higher positive rate (2 out of 3 positive farms) than the farms with over 30 heads (1 out of 3 positive farms).

Methicillin-resistant coagulase-negative staphylococci (MRCNS) were isolated from the respiratory sites of chickens in 4 farms and slaughter house located in Chungnam provinces. Isolation of coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS) was positive for 61 (26.6%) of the 229 chickens tested, and isolation of MRCNS was positive for 17 (27.9%) of the isolated CNS. A total of 17 MRCNS isolates were selected and subjected to identification. Of the 17 MRCNS isolates selected, 6 were identified as Staphylococcus cohnii, 2 as S. saprophyticus, 3 as S. simulans, 3 as S. lentus, 2 as S. carnosus, and 1 as S. xylosus. The MRCNS isolates were resistant to many beta-lactam antibiotics, and some isolates were also resistant to macrolide and aminoglycoside antibiotics. The mecA gene was detected in some isolates of each MRCNS strains. The mecA-positive isolates were classified into five staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec). SCCmec types I to IV were detected in isolates from chickens.

Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) causes an acute and lethal watery diarrhea in piglets that is great economic losses to the swine country worldwide. The spike (S) glycoprotein is an important determinant for PEDV biological properties. In the present study, we determined the full-length S gene sequences of five Chung-nam PEDV field isolates collected in 2016. The S gene was amplified by RT-PCR, purificated, sequenced, analyzed and then compared with published sequences of other PEDV strains. 5 field strains share 98.5%∼99.9% homologies with each other at the nucleotide sequence level and 96.7%∼99.9% homologies with each other at the amino acids sequence level. Most field strains have nucleotide insertions, deletions and mutation regions, and show lower homologies (93.1∼93.8%) with classical and vaccine strains, however higher homologies (99.1%∼99.5%) with US PEDV isolates in 2013. By phylogenetic tree analysis based on nucleotide sequence, five PEDV field isolates were clustered into Genogroup 2b but differ genetically from the vaccine strains (SM-98 and DR-13).

As a series of studies to investigate the effect of immunosuppression on Ascaris suum infection in undefinitive hosts, and a delicate relationship between host and parasite, in the present studies, SPF ICR mice were alloted to experiment 1(normal undefinitive host group) and experiment 2(immunosuppressive group treated with prednisolone acetate) and inoculated with a single dose of 1,100 embryonated A suum eggs. In normal group, the infection essentially terminates 4 days after inoculation(DAI) with the attainment of middle third-stage in the liver, although few larvae migrate to the lungs where a few advance to late third stage. In immunosuppressive group, significant numbers developed to late third-stage in liver 8 DAI. In general, increasing of the mast cells and the goblet cells in the jejunum mucosa, of T-cells in the spleen and of activity of peritoneal macrophages followed by expulsion of the worms in the both groups. Considering a series of the results, suitabilities for the host of the worm appeared the highest from rabbit, hamster and mouse in that order. In addition, patent infection of A suum in the mice was also not obviously observed in spite of immunosuppression by prednisolone acetate.
충남 천안아산지역에서 사육중인 육용오리의 리메렐라 감염율 조사

This survey was carried out to investigate the infection rate of Riemerella anatipestifer from domestic ducks by isolation. A total of 145 samples (nasal swabs and carcasses) were collected from farms to examine the biochemical properties and antimicrobial susceptibility test from November 2006 to February 2008. Riemerella anatipestifer was isolated from 13 of 145 sample and isolation rate was higher in the ducks below 25 days (76%, 10/13 isolates) than those over 26 days (23%, 3/13). However, there was no significant difference in isolation rate between region. The biochemical properties of isolate were Gram negative (-), non-fermentative rod that grows fastidiously on routine media. In the test of antimicrobial drug susceptibility the isolates were susceptible to tetracycline(100%), enrofloxacin(77%), ampicillin(70%).

This study was carried out to investigate the prevalence of honeybee (Apis mellifera) disease in cheonan and asan area. From September to November in 2012, 33 samples were collected from 33 apiculture farms in the regions and reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was conducted. Among 33 samples, prevalence rate was 42% in Sac Brood Virus (SBV), 52% in Nosema, 21% in American foulbrood (AFB), 70% in European foulbrood (EFB), 97% in Stonebrood, 3% in Chalkbrood. The result indicate that stonebrood was most prevalent disease in apiculture farms in cheonan and asan area.
