Power line communication networks span geographically 5 - 50 ㎞ using a bus topology. In the power line communication networks, data signal cannot travel long distance because of serious attenuation. Consequently, we need to have a number of repeaters(amplifiers) in order to recover the signal power, which causes flooding problem in the network and degradation of the network performance. In this paper, to solve the flooding problem, a flooding control MAC protocol has been devised and applied to a power line communication network in a polling control application environment. A mathematical performance analysis has been carried out to measure the performance characteristics of the proposed protocol applied to various power line communication networks. We also designed a power line communication network simulator using AWESIM simulation language to verify the mathematical results. The results of the mathematical analysis and the simulation results estimate the performance of the proposed a power line communication network.
