A development of smart materials is becoming a prominent issue on present industries. A smart material, included in functions, is needed for micro fabrication. A shape memory alloy(SMA) in a smart material is best known material. Ni-Ti alloy, composed of nikel and titanium is one of the best shape memory alloy(SMA). Nitinol SMA is used for a lot of high tech industry such as aero space, medical device, micro actuator, sensor system. However, Ni-Ti SMA is difficult to process to make a shape and fabrications as traditional machining process. Because nitinol SMA, that is contained nikel content more than titanium content, has similar physical characteristics of titanium. In this paper, the characteristics of ECM grooving process for nitinol SMA are investigated by experiments. The experiments in this study are progressed for power, gap distance and machining time. The characteristics are found each part. Fine shape in work piece can be found on conditions; current 6A, duty factor 50%, gap distance 15%, gap distance $15{\mu}m$, machining time 10min.

For the graceful design and durability, cellular phone frame is been changing from the external to internal. Most of external frames are made by aluminium alloy, because that is required to be light and cheap while that should be hard. Due to the mass product using injection molding method or die casting method, these external frames have a lot of burrs. Moreover, microscopic burrs affect for parts badly, how that makes electric jamming. In addition, microscopic burrs could injure workers or users. In this paper, for the removal of microscopic burrs on the cellular phone external frame, electrochemical deburring is conducted and electrochemical conditions are researched.

AE(acoustic emission) sensor has been used for a state monitoring and observation during a ultra-precision machining because AE signal, which has high frequency range, is sensitive enough. In case of ceramic fabrication, a monitoring of machining state is important because of its hard and brittle nature. A machining characteristic of ceramic is susceptibly different in accordance with variable machining conditions. In this study, Yttria($Y_2O_3$) ceramic was fabricated using the ultra-precision lapping process with in-process electrolytic dressing(IED) method. And the surface machining characteristic and AE sensor signal were compared and analyzed.

Electrochemical micro machining, the anodic dissolution process is considered to effective advantaged micro machining method which possess several advantages on electrically conducting and difficult to machine materials. Ni-Ti SMA(Shape Memory Alloy) is composed of approximately 56% Nikel and 44% Titanium by weight. This material is able to function as to transform specific shape from a certain deformation when the alloy is heated. However, Ni-Ti SMA is easily to loss characteristic that shape memory as a traditional machining process by reason of generating heat at contacting area between material and tool. Therefore Ni-Ti SMA is suitable electrochemical machining that needless contact a tool to material. In this paper, characteristics of micro groove process are studied on electrochemical machining to change tool diameter and distance between material and tool electrode.

AE (Acoustic Emission) sensor applications during Si wafer polishing process are various: monitoring of polishing pad state, change of slurry characteristics, friction-wear between wafer and polishing pad and identification of detail polishing process stage. AE sensor is suitable for monitoring of sensitive machining characteristics. Wafer polishing process is a detail and sensitive material removal process with actions among polishing pad, slurry, water, applied pressure and rotation speed. In this study, Elastic waves were detected during a wafer polishing process in accordance with polishing pad deformation conditions by using AE sensor. And polishing pad deformation and state of wafer polishing process were monitored and analyzed.

Electro-chemical Machining, the anodic dissolution process is able to achieve wanted a sharp shape and high quality surface without contact with workpiece and low heat effect using electrochemical reaction between anode and cathode. In hence this process useful to apply micro structure. A shape memory alloy for micro-structure and micro industrial technique, Nitinol is composed of approximately 55% Nikel and 45% Titanium by weight. This material is able to function as to transform specific shape from a certain deformation when the alloy is heated. Therefore Nitinol is used for several industries such as a medical industry, a aerospace, electrical application on a part of micro structure. In this paper, effect of electrolyte is studied on electrochemical machining for Nitinol shape memory alloy, copper is used for electrode, diameter and depth are measured as a extent of processing using optical microscope.
LiNbO<sub>3</sub> 섬유 단결정의 분극에 관한 연구

Congruent or stoichiometric $LiNbO_3$ fiber single crystals were grown by the $\mu$-PD method, and the grown fiber crystals have the several (2 or 3) ridges with a diameter of $1.35{\sim}1.5\;mm$ and a length of $40{\sim}100\;mm$. In this $\mu$-PD process, different growth rates ($10{\sim}60\;mm/h$) were applied. Pt wire or $LiNbO_3$ crystal was used as a seed. The properties of grown $LiNbO_3$ fiber single crystals having a-axis or c-axis according to seeds were effected by the grown conditions(Pt tube diameter, pulling speed, after heater etc.). Disk-type $LiNbO_3$ samples were poled in condition of DC 5 V/cm at 1050, 1075 or $1100^{\circ}C$. XRD, SEM, conoscope image through the polarized microscope, $T_C$ measuring apparatus, optical transmittance measuring instrument are used to identify the properties of $LiNbO_3$.
