Modeling a time delay model to analyze network-induced delays for networked control systems
Vol.- No.-
Networked control systems(NCSs) have been used in many areas because of their advantages such as low cost of installation, ease of maintenance, higher reliability, and greater flexibility. However, the network-induced delays, which may degrade the system performance and may cause system instability, are unavoidable in the NCSs. Therefore, it is necessary to consider and analyze the network-induced delays when an NCS is designed. In this paper, a periodic time delay model for an NCS is proposed. Time delay attributes of an NCS were defined and analyzed. The stability of an NCS was analyzed by using the proposed time delay model.

In order to satisfy the requirements of time reduction and cost saving for development of electronic control systems(ECU) in automotive industry, the applications of standardized real-time operating system(RTOS) and communication protocol to ECUs are increased. In this study, a body control module(BCM) that employs OSEK/VDX(open system and corresponding interfaces for automotive electronics/vehicle distributed executive) OS for the RTOS and a controller area network(CAN) for the communication protocol is designed and the performances of the system are evaluated. The BCM controls doors, mirrors, and windows of the vehicle through the in-vehicle network. To identify all the transmitted and received control messages, a PC connected with the CAN communication protocol behaves as a CAN bus emulator. The control system based upon in-vehicle network allows increasing system stability as well as educing wiring harness. Furthermore it is easy to maintain and simple to add new features because the system is designed based on the standards of RTOS and communication protocol.
Balancing the Tension between Freedom and Responsibility through Peter F. Drucker’s MBO&SC

The aim of this paper is to revisit and discuss the root of Peter F. Drucker’s main managerial philosophy: Management by Objectives and Self-control (MBO&SC). Based on an extensive review of Drucker and other management literature, this paper redefines MBO&SC not only as a management tool but also as a social tool that prevents society from totalitarian revival. In doing so, this paper introduces Drucker’s observation of on Kierkegaard’s ideas regarding the tension between freedom and responsibility. Then, this paper defines individual freedom and responsibility, as well as organizational freedom and responsibility. Lastly, this paper applies MBO&SC to business organizations’ eight key objective areas and describes how the ideas of MBO&SC balance the tension between freedom and responsibility within a business enterprise.

Many timing analysis algorithms are developed to evaluate the timing behavior of a distributed real-time control system. However, generally speaking, it is difficult to analyze a system with these algorithms because of their calculation complexity. In this study Response-time Analysis Tool (RAT) is developed to help system designers analyze the timing behavior of distributed real-time control system by encapsulating such complexity. Based on the RAT, system designers obtain the worst-case response time (WCRT) of each task or message and verify its schedulability by comparing the worst-case response time with its deadline. Furthermore the RAT helps system designers obtain the end-to-end response time of series of tasks and messages in a precedence relationship. To prove the feasibility of the tool, timing behaviors of a vehicle body network system are analyzed by using the RAT.<br/>
