        토양식 정화기술을 이용한 경축복합마을의 (耕畜複合) 생활오폐수 처리효율에 관한 실험적 연구

        Environmental impact survey conducted by Rural Development Administration reflecting farmers` opinion on their residence and production space in rural settlement area, showed that more than 86% of respondents thought their reservoirs and waterways (small streams) were getting seriously contaminated primarily by wastewater from residences and livestock production facilities. Two types of wastewater treatment systems using the natural purification capacity of soil ecosystem were constructed and tested to determine their purification efficiencies, which were referred to as feasible systems in Korean rural settlement area The two pilot-scale treatment facilities were situated in the Collegiate Livestock Experiment Station, Seoul National University, one of which comprised the anaerobic septic tank topped with vegetated soil, a soil filter, and a soil trench. The other was composed of four stage contact tanks (hereafter referred as the contact aerobic system) involving die 1st aeration tank, the 2nd aeration tank, the settling tank, and the filtering tank, topped with vegetated soil, and the rest of units were as same in the former system. Experiments were carried out with two levels of BOD5 loadings by manipulating the loading rates of livestock manure and sewage. The aerobic contact system performed better in treating the wastewater than the anaerobic septic tank system but BOD5 removal rate was almost the same in both the systems. In specific, BOD5, SS, T-P and T-N removal rate of the former system were 90%, 90%, 85% and 85%, respectively while those of the latter system were 95%, 60%, 80% and 80% respectively. The most influencing factor on their efficiency seems to be the weather condition and organic loading rate which was caused by the infiltration of animal waste. In conclusion, the contact aerobic tank system which performed better under significant variations of loading rate, flow mass, and local climate and given geometric specification could be recommended as an alternative for wastewater treatment system of the rural residences and production facilities.
