Retronychia is a process of a nail embedding itself into the proximal nail fold due to an incomplete shedding of the nail, and this usually occurs after physical trauma. Retronychia causes persistent paronychia and defective nail growth on the patients. Simple avulsion of the superimposed nail is curative. A 17-year-old man presented with tender erythema and swelling on the proximal nail fold of the right 3rd and 4th fingers for 2 months after an operation that was performed due to metacarpal bone fracture. The second patient was a 25-year-old male who presented with a 1-month history of persistent paronychia on his right great toe after blunt trauma. For both patients, simple avulsion of the damaged nail was curative and underlying new nails were revealed. We report here on two cases of retronychia that could be easily overlooked and such cases have not been previously reported in the Korean dermatologic literature. (Korean J Dermatol 2010;48(1):39∼42)

Piloleiomyoma is a benign neoplasm arising from the erector pili muscle in the skin. It occurs as linear or dermatomal arrangements of firm, red to brown intradermal nodules, which are fixed to the skin but not to the deeper tissues. Although various treatments have been attempted, they have shown limited success and several complications remain. A 21-year-old male presented with 3-year history of multiple, erythematous, firm 4 mm to 3 cm sized nodules on the chest, The histopathological examination was compatible with piloleiomyoma, The lesions were removed using the dermal shaving method with a suction-assisted cartilage shaver, Each lesion were markedly flattened. This treatment was quicker and caused less subjective pain to the patient compared with those of classic surgical excision. No signs of adverse events or recurrence have been observed.

Reactive perforating collagenosis (RPC) is one of a range of essential perforating disorders. Two types have been recognized: the childhood or inherited form, and the adult or acquired form. Acquired RPC is usually associated with systemic diseases, especially diabetes mellitus, and/or renal failure. We present a case of a 47-year-old female with umbilicated skin lesions triggered by an insect bite. Histology from the lesion revealed transepidermal elimination of collagen. Late-onset focal dermal elastosis is a recently described disorder afflicting elderly patients with yellow papules on the neck and flexural areas. Although there are similar clinical findings to pseudoxanthoma elasticum, no stigmata of pseudoxanthoma elastimum are not evident. Histologically the papules are characterized by increased elastic fibers of normal appearance in the mid and deep dermis and no evidence of solar elastosis. Late-onset focal dermal elastosis may be caused by focal accumulation of normal appearing elastic tissue due to loss of age related homeostatic growth regulating gene control mechanism. We report a case of pseudoxanthoma elasticum-like late-onset focal dermal elastosis and suggest that this condition may be more common than has been reported. (Korean J Dermatol 2007;45(9):923∼925)

Steatocystoma multiplex is a rare autosomal-dominant disorder characterized by asymptomatic multiple, skin-colored to yellowish nodules on the trunk, proximal extremities, and axillae. Although surgical excision is the most effective method, treatment is difficult when lesions occur in multiple numbers. Therefore, various treatments such as CO2 laser therapy, needle aspiration, and oral isotretinoin have been attempted, but results are variable. A 37-year-old man presented with multiple skin-colored subcutaneous nodules on the abdomen and both axillae. A histopathological examination was consistent with steatocystoma multiplex. The lesions were removed by dermal shaving with a suction-assisted cartilage shaver. It was an effective therapeutic method for multiple lesions with no significant adverse events. Herein, we report a case of steatocystoma multiplex treated with a suction-assisted cartilage shaver. (Korean J Dermatol 2011;49(8):735∼737)

Cytophagic histiocytic panniculitis gap (CHP) was described in 1980 as a chronic histiocytic disease of the subcutaneous tissue and associated with systemic manifestations such as fever, serositis, and hepatosplenomegaly. The current concept of CHP is that it represents a spectrum of lymphoproliferative disorders that induce secondary histiocytic cytophagocytosis. The pathogenesis of hemophagocytosis in CHP is unknown but may be related to histiocyte reaction to an abnormal cytokine milieu brought about by disordered T-cell function. In most cases the disease follows a fulminant course, but in some patients the disease seems limited to the skin and subcutaneous tissue and follows a more benign, chronic course. We report a case of cytophagic histiocytic panniculitis which had a long chronic course over 16 years, but recently became aggravated with the involvement of the extrapleural fat tissue and was treated with combination chemotherapy. Background: Axillary osmidrosis causes significant emotional distress and embarrassment. Although numerous surgical procedures have been developed for the treatment of axillary osmidrosis, there is no decisively effective one. Objective: This paper is to assess the efficacy and safety of suction-assisted cartilage shaver with the use of fibrin glue to treat axillary osmidrosis. Methods: 18 axillary osmidrosis patients were treated with suction-assisted cartilage shaver followed by injection of fibrin glue. The effectiveness of the treatment used in this study was evaluated by measurement of axillary malodor both pre- and postoperatively. Patient satisfaction was surveyed as well. Results: The postoperative test demonstrated that there was remarkable decrease in axillary malodor. Of the 18 patients, 17 patients (94.4%) expressed positive satisfaction. Complications including postinflammatory hyperpigmentation (27.8%), hematoma and skin necrosis (5.6%), scar (5.6%), infection (5.6%) and hidradenitis suppurativa (2.8%) were reported. Conclusion: The use of suction-assisted cartilage shaver with fibrin glue proved itself an effective and safe treatment for axillary ormidrosis. (Korean J Dermatol 2013;51(2):102∼107)

Tufted angioma is a rare, slow-growing, benign, vascular tumor that usually occurs in children. It appeared as an erythematous to red-brown, indurated papule on the trunk or neck. Histopathologic examination shows multiple capillary lobules in a cannon ball appearance scattered throughout the dermis. We present here a 32-year-old woman with multiple annular lesions on her right thigh, which started as red papules and they progressed with annular extension and central regression for 3 years. The histopathologic findings were compatible with tufted angioma. The lesions were treated with 3 sessions of sclerotherapy. We report here on an unusual tufted angioma that occurred as multiple lesions which showed annular extension with central regression. (Korean J Dermatol 2010;48(12):1121∼1124)
