A Qualitative Analysis of Construction Projects From Supply Chain Management Perspective

This paper presents an analysis of construction project management from supply chain management perspective to gain insight from all constituents and to identify areas of improvement. In order to suggest opportunities for improvement, interviews with the members of a typical urban office building project in US were held. Based on that, a qualitative analysis of construction projects is presented. Focusing on electrical and mechanical sub-systems, this study illustrates the roles of subcontractors, suppliers, distributors, and manufacturing representatives as well as the complexity that a general contractor fares in managing its supply chain. The author$^{\circ}\phi$s recommendations are focused on process restructuring and automation, which include some quantifiable performance measures, incentives, and their alignment with each other

The supply chain can significantly affect a construction project based on its ability to deliver construction products in a timely manner. The success of a supply chain depends on its ability to share, intercept, and respond to information flows as well as the clarity and speed of it. However, the benefit of information sharing typically lies only in the recipient of shared information, which in turn, makes the members of a construction supply chain discourage information sharing. This research proposes an incentive scheme to entice all project members to share critical information using an option theoretic approach. Based on this framework, a prototype system for an agent-based negotiation methodology is presented. The result of applying this scheme to a real project in US shows that the proposed approach can provide a Win-Win strategy for construction supply chaini management, where real-time information sharing leads to apportioning benefits to project participants in the form of risk mitigation and operational improvement.
물류보안 인증 확산모델 개발 및 적용에 관한 연구 -ISO 28000 사례를 중심으로-

In this study, diffusion of ISO 28000 certification is modeled by system dynamics theory and diffusion model is simulated to uncover the diffusion type of ISO 28000 certification. Government funding, Word-Of-Mouth, and other parameters mainly affecting the diffusion were selected and constructed in the diffusion model. In addition, the difference was analyzed by simulation by the different model of government support and non government support. The simulation result showed that government funding in accordance with ISO 28000 diffusion simulation results government support gives significant impacts in the spread of ISO 28000. This result will help to set optimal amount of support for the spread of ISO 28000 diffusion in terms of diffusion speed and cost effectiveness. This study is significant in constructing ISO 28000 diffusion model in the first run. Therefore, This study is expected to be a good reference of the forward-looking decision making by the simulation and forecast of the diffusion.

This paper presents a parcel delivery agent`s internal criteria which affects the process of selecting express service providers. Furthermore, these selection attributes are evaluated in terms of their strategic significance from the agent`s perspective. Using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method, which is widely adopted for analyzing complex and qualitative decision problems, this paper proposes the vital elements of corporate strategy for express service providers` marketing purpose. Considering the domestic market characteristics and previous research, we have designed the hierarchical selection attributes consisting of 5 high level elements and subsequent 20 low level ones. More specifically, express service, business profitability, management capability, management resource, and partnership were chosen for high level elements. The low level attributes include service coverage, service specialty, customer claim resolution, service on-time capability, and etc. The analysis results shows that the most significant criteria for selecting express service providers are profitability elements, followed by management capability and partnership in that order. Service rate, human resource, brand awareness, and logistic network turn out to have critical significance among the low level elements.
연안운송의 활성화를 위한 연계체계 구축방안에 관한 연구

The efficiency and effectiveness of freight transportation within and across Northeast Asia play a key role to achieve competitive advantages against other competing hubs in this area. However, the majority of local freight has been carried by ground transportation and the share of costal shipping has been decreasing for its transportational complexity and poor cargo works. In this paper, we discuss the prerequisites of efficient cargo linkage system from the perspectives of road, rail, ocean, and the service providers. Specifically, we identify that the balanced capacity of road/rail transportation system with costal freight system is a crucial component for facilitating coastal shipping. Other requirements such as the efficient on-dock container yard (ODCY), dedicated ports and ships, and the service provider of door-to-door transportation for short sea shipping are highlighted in order to secure the serviceability and availability of streamlined costal shipping. Further, we elaborate these requirements to facilitate costal cargo shipping in Korea.

This study dealt with the selection of decoupling point using capacity and demand characteristic of the suppliers that manufacture the insulation panel for the shipbuilders. This study analyzed how the location of the decoupling point, the inventory cost and total cost change when the selection factors of decoupling point change. The result of simulation and the result of sensitivity analysis found out how selection factors affect the location of the decoupling point, the inventory cost and total cos and which factor is the most influential. This study would help the suppliers in the shipbuilding industry to increase their cost-competitiveness through decreasing inventory cost with the right decoupling point.
AHP를 이용한 인천항 물류보안 평가에 관한 연구 : 컨테이너 터미널을 중심으로

To improve the efficiency of logistics and ensure safe freight flow, a comprehensive set of supply chain security initiatives have been implemented and practiced throughout the world. Since such initiatives might become a trade barrier in the future, it is necessary to respond and correspond to the logistics security in a timely manner. However, research in this area is still lacking, especially quantitative research or surveys on local port facilities and ships. In this context, this study included the logistics companies (maritime shipping companies, container terminals) in Incheon Port as well as many logistics security experts in Korea in order to assess the security level of Incheon Port. Using AHP, this research derived the security items with respect to the importance level and their priorities. The research result showed that each group posed different perception in terms of the importance level of security items. Overall, Incheon Port facilities were fairly managed for security but it needs considerable preparation for the item such as 'cargo inspection and tracing,' and 'crisis management and disaster recovery & self assessment' for further security enhancement. The weighted priority value was calculated by multiplying the importance value of the specific items and the evaluation value of the preparation level. Based on this result, this paper suggests that the item 'cargo inspection and tracing' and 'security training/program' need to get prepared further for responding global supply chain security requirements.
X-Ray 영상정보 동시구현장치 도입이 물류보안 성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

This study aims to analyze the impact of synchronizing freight and information flow to the effectiveness of logistics security and the efficiency of logistics operation. Traditionally, it has been regarded that the performance of logistics security has a trade-off relationship with on-time and prompt logistics operation. However, using empirical data, this research demonstrates that this relationship can be converted into a positive feedback through introducing technological process innovation. To this end, we have reviewed recent trend in global logistics security and studied customs process for express freights, where a new X-Ray scanner has been installed to provide scanned images of freights as well as their pertaining information simultaneously. With actual customs clearance data from 2008 to 2011, the impact of synchronized freight and information flow was analyzed in order to suggest alternative ways to mitigate trade-off between the effectiveness of logistics security and the efficiency of logistics operation.
