To investigate the spray behavior and atomization characteristics using an air-assist injector, spray visualization and PDPA measurements were carried out under the various assisted air pressures and the fixed fuel pressure. The air assist pintle type injector employed in this study is consisted of the air assist adaptor and an injector housing using the gasoline fuel and air as the working fluids. As results, increasing pressure of assisted air, the growth of spray tip penetration is gradually reduced at the end of spray and spray angle is steadily increased at the main spray region except from the early spray. For the air assist pressure of 25kPa in a spray downstream, it is concluded that droplet size distribution shows the peak of 10tnn and most of the droplet sizes are less than 50tnn. Also, the air-assist injector extremely improves fuel atomization in order to produce much finer droplets, it shows that approximately, in this case, 50% decrease of SMD than without <br/>

The effects of a seam blade on the performance of an axial flow fan, which is widely used in ventilation, were investigated experimentally. The seams were setup onto the pressure surface of the blade. The four blades with edge seam, double stem seam, edge & double stem seam, and seamless were manufactured for the test, and their effects on the flowrate were evaluated. The stem seam onto the blade was designed according to the formula of quadratic curve. Axial velocity distribution and flowrate were measured using a pitot tube, and they were compared at the same condition. In addition, the fan noise and consuming power were compared with commercial products and newly designed blades. The blade with the double stem seam showed highest flowrate among them.

The effects of intake port eccentricity on the characteristics of in-cylinder swirl ratio in a 4-valve diesel engine having the two intake ports; one is a helical intake port and the other is a tan-gential intake port were investigated by using the ISM(impulse swirl meter) in steady flow test rig. Swirl ratio(R_s) and mean flow coefficient(C_f(mean)) with valve eccentricity ratio(N_y) and axial dis-tance(Z/B)were measured.<br/> As the results from this experiment, the characteristics of in-cylinder swirl ratio formed by a 4-valve cylinder head were largely affected by intake port eccentricity. There is a difference in the mass flowrate through the two intake ports, and the mass flowrate through the tangential intake port is 19% more than that of the helical intake port. Therefore, we could know that the effects of the mass flowrate ratio through each intake port besides intake port shape should be considered.<br/>

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of intake manifold shapes to improve the engine performance in a 3-cylinder LPG engine with a closed loop fuel supply system. To know the flow resistance of intake manifolds with shape, the intake negative pressure of each runner in in-take manifolds were measured by using the digital pressure meter at each driving condition. And. the engine torque and power have been measured with an engine dynamometer while adjusting the optimal fuel consumption ratio with a solenoid driver.<br/> As the results from this experiment, the torque characteristics were more improved with the ple-num chamber(B type intake manifold) than with the banana type(A type intake manifold). The torque characteristics were improved at mid-engine speed(rpm) range as the inner diameter of the intake manifold became smaller. And also the optimum volume among the examined plenum cham-ber volume was 0.74 times(590cc) the displacement of the test engine.<br/>

The effects of valve eccentricity ratio on the characteristics of in-cylinder swirl flow formed by a helical intake port were investigated in the steady flow test rig using the ISM (impulse swirl meter). The swirl ratio and mean flow coefficient with the variation of valve lift and valve eccentricity ratio were measured.<br/> Swirl ratio(R,) increases as the valve eccentricity ratio increases in the X-direction. But in the variation of positive Y -direction, it increase a little in comparison with that of X -direction. And also it decrease with the increase of valve eccentricity ratio in the negative Y -direction.<br/> In the comparison of the swirl ratio distribution, the helical port A used in this experiment show the same trend as the steep ramp helical intake port.<br/>

This experimental study was carried out to investigate the characteristics of the in-cylinder ecswirl flow generated by a 4 valve cylinder head with a tangential and a helical intake port. The measurements of the in-cylinder velocity field have been made by a two-channel LDA system. The mean flow coefficient(CrrmO.,)), swirl ratio(R,) and mass flowrate with valve eccentricratios and an intake port partition between the two intake ports were measured in the steady flow test rig using the ISM (impulse swirl meter). The experimental results indicated that the mass flowrate through the tangential intake port was 19% and 7.7% more than that of the helical inport in case of with and without intake port partition respectively. There was a tendency to be a single rotation flow in swirl flow fields formed by a 4 valve cylinder head because of the inbetween the two intake ports. As the intake port partition was not set between the two intake ports. the increase of swirl ratio(R,) was 49.5%. while the decrease of mean flow coeffiwas 7.35%.<br/>

The Spray performance of a fuel injector have an important effect upon engine power and emission. This study discusses the spray behavior of an intermittent injection using a gasoline fuel injector. Image processing system and PDA system was utilized for the visualization of a spray behavior and the measurement of a fuel drop size and mean velocity. respectively. Fuel injection duration was fixed with 3ms and injection pressure was varied. As results. mean spray arrival time is linear increased with spray axis distance. Spray axis velocity linear correlate with fuel drop size in the time interval of an injected main spray.<br/>
