이 연구는 한국의 개발NGO가 아프리카 지역에서 수행한 교육개발협력 사업의 성과를 분석한 연구이다. 구체적으로 한국의 대표적인 개발NGO인 굿네이버스가 2012년부터 5년 동안 아프리카 지역에서 실시한 희망학교지원사업의 성과를 ‘학교의 교육여건, 재학생의 교육경험, 학교의 교육성과’의 세 가지 측면에서 분석하였다. 이를 위해 아프리카 7개 국가의 희망학교와 동일 지역에 위치한 비희망학교 총 45개 초등학교의 4학년과 6학년 재학생 총 2,756명(25개 희망학교 재학생 1,489명, 20개 비희망학교 재학생 1,267명)을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 분석결과, 희망학교 재학생들의 학교시설 만족도가 비희망학교 재학생에 비해서 높았으며, 특히 선택시설에 대한 만족도의 차이가 크게 나타났다. 그리고 희망학교 재학생은 학교시설 이외에도 교육프로그램과 교사의 생활지도 영역에 대해 비희망학교 재학생에 비해 비교적 긍정적으로 인식하였다. 마지막으로 교육성과의 측면에서도 학교지원사업은 재학생들의 인지적, 정서적, 사회적 발달에 긍정적인 영향을 끼친 것으로 드러났다. 이러한 분석결과를 토대로 향후 아프리카 지역에서 학교지원사업을 추진하는 데 필요한 시사점으로 교육성과를 고려한 학교시설 개선 사업, 교육 프로그램과 연계된 시설사업, 교사지원의 중요성, 학부모 참여를 고려한 지원 등에 대해 논의하였다. This research explores the achievement of educational development project conducted by Korean development NGOs in Africa. For this purpose, focusing on the Good Neighbors Hope School Project, a total of 2,756 students (1,489 students in 25 hope-schools and 1,267 students in 20 non-hope schools) from 45 schools in 7 African countries were surveyed. Through the review of the literature, we have developed research framework and survey instrument that include three aspects: the educational environment of the school, the education experience of the current students, and the educational performance. As a result of the analysis, the educational condition of the school improved in all aspects and the educational condition was higher than the average level in the surrounding area. In addition to the school facilities, Hope School students were relatively positive about the educational programs and teachers life guidance areas compared to the non-hope school students. Finally, in terms of educational outcomes, the school facility support project has shown positive effects on students cognitive, emotional and social development. Based on the results of this analysis, the implications for the improvement of school support projects in Africa were discussed as follow: the improvement of the school facilities project considering the educational achievement, the facility project connected with the education program, the importance of teacher support, and the integrated support considering parents participation.
