Purpose: To investigate the time course and occurrence of foveal retinal detachment presenting with symptoms of metamorphopsia and decreased visual acuity after successful surgery for macula-off retinal detachment. Methods: This study included 9 eyes of 9 patients who were diagnosed with foveal retinal detachment using optical coherence tomography (OCT) among 198 patients who had decreased visual acuity and metamorphopsia after successful rhegmatogenous retinal detachment surgery. Results: All eyes were diagnosed with foveal retinal detachment by OCT. Foveal retinal detachment occurred after scleral buckling surgery in 8 eyes (88%) and after vitrectomy and pneumoretinopexy in 1 eye. The degree and frequency of foveal retinal detachment was milder and lower after vitrectomy and pneumoretinopexy than after scleral buckling surgery. All foveal retinal detachments were reattached spontaneously after 9 months (range, 5~14 months). In all eyes, the symptom of metamorphopsia was improved and visual acuity increased after the foveal retinal detachment was reattached. Conclusions: OCT can be used to diagnose foveal retinal detachment in cases when the fundus and fluorescein angiography do not show specific findings but, presenting symptoms of decreased visual acuity and metamorphopsia. In all cases evaluated, the foveal retinal detachment was reattached spontaneously without treatment.
특발성 망막전막 제거술 전후의 다국소 망막전위도 비교에 대한 연구

`Purpose: To assess macular function before and after vitrectomy and membrane removal in epiretinal membranes by means of multifocal electroretinogram (mfERG). Methods: The mfERGs (RETIscan?, Roland, Germany) of 28 consecutive patients (28 eyes) with idiopathic epiretinal membranes were recorded before epiretinal membrane surgery and 3 to 6 months after surgery. The average retinal response density and implicit time of each local response were estimated as anatomic macular areas corresponding roughly to 5 rings. Preoperative and postoperative responses of mfERG were compared. The correlation of the change of retinal response density and postoperative macular configuration on optical coherent tomography (OCT) was statistically analyzed. Results: The postoperative value of P1 amplitude and implicit time were not statistically correlated with the preoperative value (p>0.05). There were no significant correlations between the changes of rings 1 and 2 with regard to the retinal response density of the mfERGs and visual acuity. There was no significant correlation between the change of retinal response density and postoperative macular configuration according to OCT. Conclusions: The use of mfERGs does not seem useful for predicting clinical prognosis after epiretinal membrane surgery. Further studies of influence of internal limiting membrane removal on mfERG response should be conducted.`

Advanced Ceramics have some excellent properities as the material for the mechanical com. ponent. It is, however, very difficult to grind ceramics with high efficiency because of their high strength, hardness and brittleness.<br/> In this study, various machining experiments are carried out to obtain the basic knowledge of grinding High Strength Ceramics with high efficiency and precision for the purpose of application to Automobile parts. Advanced Engineering Ceramics such as Si₃N₄, SiC, Zr0₂, Al0₃ are ground with diamond wheels using conventional grinding machine.<br/> Results obtained in this study provide some useful informations to attain the high efficiency grinding of Advanced Ceramics.

Recently, we have been developing useful micro factory system can be applied to frontier technology industries in long term R&D project combined with five study groups. And press module used for plastic forming process is also regarded as one of the major machining units composed to micro factory system. The purpose of this sub-project is to development and supply proper dies as the downsized machine tools in practice to keep the facilities in good working order of miniaturized press. As the result of this year study, finally ultra-fine stamping die punch using WC-Co alloy with the minimum width size of 120µm for sheet metal forming had been manufactured on trial.
화합물 반도체 본딩용 Spin Coater Module의 동특성 평가

Spin coater is regarded as a major module rotating at high speed to be used build up polymer resin thin film layer for bonding process of GaAs wafer. This module is consisted of spin unit for spreading uniformly, align device, resin spreading nozzle and et al. Specially, spin unit which is a component of module can cause to vibrate and finally affect to the uniformity of polymer resin film layer. For the stability prediction of rotation velocity and uniformity of polymer resin film layer, it is very important to understand the dynamic characteristics of assembled spin coater module and the dynamic response mode resulted from rotation behavier of spin chuck. In this paper, stress concentration mode and the deformed shape of spin chuck generated due to angular acceleration process are presented using analytical method for evaluation of structural safety according to the revolution speed variation of spin unit. And also, deformation form of GaAs wafer due to dynamic behavior of spin chuck is presented for the comparison of former simulated results.
