The stability of engine operation is improved, but the stability of engine operation at idle is not improved as a whole in the electric controlled fuel injection as compared with the gasoline engine of carburetor type. There are some reports that the stability of engine operation is related to the variations of air-fuel ratio.<br/> It was recognized that the stability of engine at idle is affected by the factors of fuel injection timing, ignition timing and air-fuel ratio. Therefore in this research, we will study the influences of stability and the variations of air-fuel ratio of the electric controlled fuel injection gasoline engine at idle according to fuel injection timing, ignition timing and air-fuel ratio as the basic parameters, and analyze the variations of air-fuel ratio.<br/>

According as the gasoline engine of carburetor type is converted to the electric controlled fuel injection system with electric control, the improvement of fuel economy and the decrease of exhaust emissions are realized. In general, the stability of engine operation is improved, but the stability of engine operation at idle is not improved as a whole in the electric controlled fuel injection as compared with the gasoline engine of carburetor type. In addition, the increase of idle time according to the traffic congestion has as an effect on the engine stability and vehicle reliability. Therefore in this research, we will study the influence of stability at the idle condition according to fuel injection time, ignition time, air-fuel ratio in basically.

In the sequential MPI system, for better identical mixture formation conditions for ail cylinders, injection timing can be better adjusted to engine requirement. Engine behavior is clearly different depending on the injection time during intake stroke. An injection time relatively late in the intake stroke, i.e. IT 720degree, translates into increased combustion stability, COV(Pmax), A/F excursion, combusted fuel.<br/>
