Volatile compounds of the apricot blossom (Prunus mume) were analyzed to identify the volatiles’ profile and olfactory property. Dynamic head-space extraction methods were used to capture the volatiles from living flower, before GC-MS analysis. In addition, the odor characteristic properties of the major volatile components were obtained by Flavor-Base 2010. A total of 47 volatile compounds were identified, and the major volatile components were benzyl acetate, benzaldehyde, eugenol, estragole, nonanol, acetophenone, hexyl acetate, benzyl butyrate, α-pinene and octanal. The volatile components contributed to the scent of apricot blossom were esters (sweet fruity odor like banana, pear and melon) and benzyl acetate (white floral odor).
Improvement of olfactory satisfaction of the biodegradable fragrance compounds
( Yonjin Jun ),( Yeonju Hong ) 한국감성과학회 2021 추계학술대회 Vol.2021 No.0
This study related to a biodegradable fragrance composition, which has a high degree of biodegradability and is easily decomposed in a water environment. Sensory evaluation was performed to improve the olfactory preference and satisfaction of readily biodegradable fragrance compounds.
Analysis of Korean native Magnolia Kobus A.P.DC flower scent.
( Yonjin Jun ),( Yeonju Hong ) 한국감성과학회 2023 한국감성과학회 국제학술대회(ICES) Vol.2023 No.-
The purpose of this study was to determine volatiles contributed to the scent of flowers of Korean native Magnolia (Magnolia Kobus A.P.DC). Volatiles released from living flower were trapped on tedlar gas bag by using head-space extraction method. Those volatiles were separated and identified by GC-MS. A total 52 volatiles detected, and the most abundant compounds were limonene, myrcene, benzaldehyde and camphor.

In order to identify fragrant compounds of the moran flower (Paeonia suffruticosa), dynamic head space extraction method was used to capture volatiles from the living flower, and then volatiles components were analyzed by GC-MS. In addition, the odor characteristic properties were obtained by Flavor-Base 2010. A total of 83 volatile compounds were detected, and the major volatile components were β-caryophyllene, germacrene.D, nerol, geraniol and phenyl ethyl alcohol. These components contributed to the fragrance of fresh floral character (like rose and geranium).

The scent of Ganghwa Goryeo ginseng was studied for its historical and national value. To identify the olfactory character of a six year old Ganghwa Goryeo ginseng, the root, flower and the shoot system part were studied separately for a more detailed result. The volatile compounds were first extracted by using headspace extraction method, which is the most suitable method to collect volatile compounds1-2,thenanalyzedwithGC/MS.Theanalyzedcompounds’ odor characters were obtained based on Flavor-Base 2010. From the result, key compounds that contributed to the scent of a six year old Ganghwa Goryeo ginseng were found.

The scent of Chionanthus retusa flower was studied and its olfactory character was identified by extracting the volatile compound and analyzing with GC/MSD. The extraction was done by using a dynamic headspace extraction method, which is the most suitable method to collect volatile compounds1-2, then analyzed with GC/MSD. From the result, key compounds that contributed to the scent of Chionanthus retusa flower were found.

Seokchangpo (sweet flag), which is generally used for ornamental or medicinal purposes, has a unique scent. In this study, the scent of Seokchangpo was analyzed by making a difference between the method of cultivating Seokchangpo (Water culture, Soil culture) and the method of extracting fragrance components (Head-space extraction, Solvent extraction).
