In this paper, the dynamics and structure of mixed marriages on the example of the Korean Diaspora in different territorial boundaries based on the study of population censuses from the archive of marriage registry office s of four cities in Kazakhstan have been studied. The comparative characteristics of ethnic Koreans from the mono-ethnic marriages are given in the work. Before such analogies were done in the studies of other scientists, but a logical application of historical-genetic method with the consideration of the influence of ethno-social and demographic characteristics of couples getting married substantiate the degree of novelty of this approach. Based on the study, as sources of current registration and census it was revealed varying degrees of participation in inter-ethnic marriages between men and women among Koreans as an example of the urbanized population in various cities. In addition, the work was determined by the degree of ethnic endogamy urbanized Koreans in Kazakhstan on the known scientific methods on the basis of material collected in different places of residence of the members of this ethnic community.

Social Change and Marriage Patterns among Koryo Saram in Kazakhstan, 1937–1965

This article considers social forces set in motion when ethnic Koreans of the former Soviet Union (Koryo saram) were deported from the Soviet Far East to Central Asia under Stalin, treating these emerging phenomena as a context for understanding the community’s marriage patterns. Drawing on archival records from 1937 to 1965 in Kazakhstan, we show how choice of marriage partner reflects changes in socioeconomic status, places of residence, gender roles and language use. Demographic data about interethnic marriages in Kazakhstan, we argue, serves as a useful tool for exploring relations between Koryo saram and the larger host society; these evolving trends in marriage patterns offer a window into the Korean diaspora experience locally and more broadly.

1970~80년대 카자흐스탄 고려인의 타민족과의 결혼현상을 통한 다민족 관계 발전 연구

1970~80년대에 카자흐스탄에서는 고려인과 타민족 간에 결혼이 많이 이루어졌다. 이 무렵은 전반적으로 카자흐스탄의 경제와 사회적 삶이 침체기에 있었고, 또한 원주민들의 도시집중화가 증가하고 인구폭발이 있던 시기이다. 이 시기에는 민족 간 결혼 현상을 크게 일었고, 공화국 전체의 결혼 증가와 더불어 민족 간 결혼 또한 크게 성장을 했다. 1970~80년대에 고려인의 민족 간 결혼의 규모는 대략 30% 정도였고, 이는 주로 도시 거주 고려인 사회에서 널리 퍼져 있었다. 고려인의 민족 간 결혼 사례는 도시에 거주하는 고려인의 수와 타민족의 규모에 따라서 변화가 있었다. 결혼 대상 타민족으로는 러시아인이 우세했고, 카자흐인, 우크라이나인도 민족 간 결혼의 대상이 되었다. 해당 시기에 고려인 남성의 타민족과의 결혼율은 62.9%를 차지했고, 여성은 37.1%를 차지했는데, 경제적 자립성과 사회적 이동성이 고려인 남성들로 하여금 여성들보다 더 쉽게 민족 간 결혼에 참여하도록 영향을 미친 것으로 보인다. 카자흐스탄에서 향후의 사회통계 학적, 사회적 정책의 향상이 이루어지기 위해서는 카자흐스탄의 역사적 발전과 공화국의 민족 구성, 공화국 내에서의 삶의 조건과 모든 민족의 생활문화전통의 특징을 잘 고려하여 그러한 정책의 방향을 잘 결정해 나가는데 있다고 본다. Coexistence and the stable development of various ethnic groups in society is a serious problem for every multinational State, which is Kazakhstan. One of the manifestations of integration in Kazakhstan have become intermarriages. This paper examines intermarriages of Koreans in Kazakhstan. The author makes an analysis of the structure and dynamics of intermarriages among Koreans in Kazakhstan, as well as major historical and demographic aspects that affected and influencing the development of interethnic marriages in the period 1970-1980. First, an overall picture of the impact of demographics on mixed marriages of Koreans. It then examines the ethnic structure of inter marriages of Koreans and the trend in the choice of marriage partner, defines the role of demographic characteristics. Based on known scientific methods, the author calculates the quantitative measure of the endogamous Korean ethnicity and sex ratio of the frequency of marriage with other nationalities.
