      • Template-oriented synthesis of hydroxyapatite nanoplates for 3D bone printing

        Doustkhah, Esmail,Najafi Zare, Reza,Yamauchi, Yusuke,Taheri-Kafrani, Asghar,Mohtasham, Hamed,Esmat, Mohamed,Ide, Yusuke,Fukata, Naoki,Rostamnia, Sadegh,Sadeghi, Morteza H.,Assadi, M. Hussein N. Royal Society of Chemistry 2019 Journal of Materials Chemistry B Vol. No.

<P>The design of hydroxyapatite (HA) nanoarchitecture is critical for fabricating artificial bone tissues as it dictates the biochemical and the mechanical properties of the final product. Herein, we incorporated a simple hard-template approach to synthesise single crystal nanoplates of HA. We used the 2D graphitic nitride (g-C3N4) material to prepare an HA sol-gel under hydrothermal conditions. A new HA nanostructure was then formed during the calcination and removal of g-C3N4 at a higher temperature, which finally led to the production of nanoplates (thickness of ∼100 nm) while in lateral dimension the average size was in the micrometre scale. We characterised the synthesised HA nanoplates with XRD, TEM, and HRTEM. The theoretically predicted nanostructure construction based on Wulff's method is in full agreement with the experimental observations. We then prepared different weight ratios of HA and polylactic acid (PLA) composites for artificial 3D bone fabrication. The strong interaction between PLA and HA's (110) facet, which was the second most prevalent, resulted in the composite's mechanical robustness. After mechanical testing, an optimum ratio was selected for biological studies and 3D printing. Biological experiments demonstrated that the synthesised composite had excellent viability <I>in vitro</I>.</P>

An overview of the plant-mediated green synthesis of noble metal nanoparticles for antibacterial applications

Farahnaz Behzad,Seyed Morteza Naghib,Mohammad Amin Jadidi kouhbanani,Seyede Nafise Tabatabaei,Yasser Zare,이경엽 한국공업화학회 2021 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.94 No.-

Metallic nanoparticles (MNPs) with attractive physicochemical properties are utilized in severalbiomedical domains, such as antimicrobial agents. Many researchers have tried to explore novel aspectsof the respective worth of MNPs, arising from their small size. The increasing demand for MNPs hasattracted research interest on developing simple, rapid, inexpensive, and environmentally friendlyprocesses for the synthesis of MNPs. Among the developed types of MNPs, noble metal nanoparticles(NMNPs), especially silver (Ag), gold (Au), and platinum (Pt), have received much attention, due to theirexcellent properties and diverse applications. For example, microbial contaminations are one of the mostsevere issues faced in food industries, medical device application, and water treatment. To address theseissues, nanoscale materials and nanostructures, especially NMNPs, have been developed, offering novelantimicrobial features. Herein, we review the available green approaches for producing NMNPs (AgNPs,AuNPs, and PtNPs) using different plant extracts, and discuss the antibacterial influences andbiocompatibility of these NPs. We highlight the developments of NMNPs for resolving existing toxicityconcerns, their antimicrobial effects, as well as the future challenges in thisfield.

Study of Iran–Saudi Arabia Sports Relations

        Mohsenifar Ali,Dousti Morteza,Zare Fateme,Géczi Gábor 한국외국어대학교 국제지역연구센터 2022 International Area Studies Review Vol.25 No.4

Political tensions and conflicts have been accompanying modern sports for a long time. The objective of this study was to determine the political reasons for not hosting football matches between Iranian and Saudi football teams. To address the research objective, a mixed-method approach was used. First, in the qualitative part, the political reasons for not hosting the matches identified through the content analysis and interviews were reviewed and evaluated by Delphi Group (25 people) in the second and third stages. Secondly, in the qualitative section of the study, the questionnaire was also used to rank the reasons. The research findings showed that tensions between Tehran and Riyadh increased after the Saudi Embassy attack in Tehran and Mashhad (January 2016) and the execution of Sheikh Nimr, a Shia sheikh opposed to the Saudi government. Saudi Arabia has requested that the Asian Champions League matches against Iranian opponents be held on neutral grounds in order to ensure the safety of its players. It is therefore recommended that sports managers and politicians in Iran reduce the political tensions between the two countries. In addition, they need to strive toward creating peace, friendship, and security between the two countries.

Comparison of the Nutritional Status Assessment Methods for Hemodialysis Patients

( Zahra Sohrabi ),( Atefeh Kohansal ),( Hanieh Mirzahosseini ),( Moein Naghibi ),( Morteza Zare ),( Neda Haghighat ),( Marzieh Akbarzadeh ) 한국임상영양학회 2021 Clinical Nutrition Research Vol.10 No.3

Protein-energy wasting (PEW) is prevalent among hemodialysis (HD) patients and is associated with poor outcomes. There are various methods for nutritional status evaluation in HD patients. Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages. We aimed at comparing the method validities of normalized protein catabolic ratio (nPCR) and malnutrition universal screening tool (MUST) with subjective global assessment (SGA) in HD patients. We examined 88 HD patients using SGA and MUST questionnaires. The nPCRs were calculated using pre-dialysis and post-dialysis BUN and Kt/v. Also, PEW of patients was assessed based on the criteria of the International Society of Renal Nutrition and Metabolism. Methods' specificity, sensitivity, and precision rates were assessed. Correlations between methods were analyzed using Pearson-correlation. Based on the SGA, MUST, and nPCR methods, almost 41%, 30%, and 60% of patients had malnutrition, respectively. According to the criteria, more than 90% of patients had PEW. SGA was positively and significantly associated with MUST (p ≤ 0.001). Sensitivity for SGA, MUST, and nPCR methods were 100%,100%, 1.8%, and their specificity were 98%, 98%, and 4%, and their precision rates were 99.7%, 98.7%, and 3%, respectively. From various methods of nutritional assessment (SGA, MUST, and nPCR), compared to SGA as the common method of nutrition assessment in hemodialysis patients, MUST had the nearest specificity, sensitivity, and precision rate and nPCR method had the lowest ones. nPCR seems to be a flawed marker of malnutrition and it should be more investigated if MUST can be used instead of SGA.

Health-Related Quality of Life and Nutritional Status Are Related to Dietary Magnesium Intake in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: A Cross-Sectional Study

( Afsane Ahmadi ),( Mohammad Hassan Eftekhari ),( Zohreh Mazloom ),( Masoom Masoompour ),( Mohammad Fararooei ),( Morteza Zare ),( Najmeh Hejazi ) 한국임상영양학회 2022 Clinical Nutrition Research Vol.11 No.1

An insufficient intake of magnesium may be associated with the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). We aimed to determine the relationship between health related quality of life (QoL), anthropometric indices and nutritional status with dietary magnesium intake in COPD patients. Sixty-one COPD patients participated in this cross-sectional study. QoL and nutritional status were assessed. Furthermore, body composition, calf circumference, and muscle strength were measured; equations were used to calculate fat-free mass index, body mass index, and muscle mass value. Dietary magnesium intake was assessed by three 24-hours recalls and magnesium intake was categorized as ≤ 188.08 mg/day (A group) and > 188.08 mg/day (B group). The χ2, independent-sample t-test and Mann-Whitney test were used for statistical analysis. The p values less than 0.05 were considered significant. Of QoL assessments the total and impact mean scores of St. George's respiratory questionnaire in the B group were significantly lower than the means of the A group (p value = 0.007 and 0.005, respectively). The instrumental activity of daily living score was significantly improved in patients with higher consumption of dietary magnesium (p = 0.02). Participants had a significantly lower mean score of patient-generated subjective global assessment in the B group compared to the A group (p = 0.003). Higher intake of dietary magnesium can lead to improve QoL and nutrition status.
