Pathologic features can provide valuable information for determining prognosis in IgA nephropathy (IgAN). However, it is uncertain whether the Oxford classification, a new classification of IgAN, can predict renal outcome better than previous ones. We conducted a retrospective cohort study in 500 patients with biopsy-proven IgAN between January 2002 and December 2010 to compare the ability of the Haas and the Oxford classifications to predict renal outcome. Primary outcome was a doubling of the baseline serum creatinine concentration (D-SCr). During a mean follow-up of 68months, 52 (10.4%) and 35 (7.0%) developed D-SCr and end-stage renal disease, respectively. There were graded increases in the development of D-SCr in the higher Haas classes. In addition, the primary endpoint of D-SCr occurred more in patients with the Oxford M and T lesions than those without such lesions. In multivariate Cox regression analyses, the Haas class V (HR, 12.19; P=.002) and the Oxford T1 (hazard ratio [HR], 6.68; P<.001) and T2 (HR, 12.16; P<.001) lesions were independently associated with an increased risk of reaching D-SCr. Harrell's C index of each multivariate model with the Haas and the Oxford classification was 0.867 (P=.015) and 0.881 (P=.004), respectively. This was significantly higher than that of model with clinical factors only (C=0.819). However, there was no difference in C-statistics between the 2 models with the Haas and the Oxford classifications (P=.348). This study suggests that the Haas and the Oxford classifications are comparable in predicting progression of IgAN.

『Technology Development Consortium Consisting of Industrial, Academic and Research Institutions』driven by government since 1993 has played an important role in the use of the research personnel and facilities of universities (or research institutions) and development of technologies much needed at production facilities of SMEs. From now on, based on the results of both economic and non-economic performance analysis, we need to aim our efforts at increasing not only investment efficiency but also substantiality. To this end, in this paper, we inquire into the history of promoting consortiums and development task, and investigate and analyze the accomplishment of our university during past 10 years. Finally, from those results, we discover key factors which help to promote a successful cooperation among the industries, universities and research institutions.

Chronic myelocytic leukemia is one of rare type of leukemia in childhood. Frequent presenting initial symptoms are intermittent fever with unknown origin, abdominal distention, .hepatosplenomegaly, bleeding tendency, recurrent infection and generalized lymphadenopathy. The case was ten years old male child who was admitted with symptoms of abdominal distention, fever, and hepatosplenomegaly. He was confirmed by bone marrow aspiration and hematologic studies. We reviewed the literature about the etiology incidence, clinical symptoms, physical findings, hematologic findings, prognosis and management of chronic myelocytic leukemia briefly.

<P>Glycated hemoglobin (HbA(1c)), defined as hemoglobin (Hb) molecules having a stable adduct of glucose on the N-terminal of the beta-chains, has been endorsed as a diagnostic tool for diabetes mellitus and a prediction indicator for the development of diabetes complications. Here we describe an accurate procedure using two stages of isotope dilution-ultra performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (ID-LC-MS/MS) for the quantification of HbA(1c) that provides full traceability to International System of Units (SI). First, synthetic peptides representing specific markers of HbA(1c) (G-hexa) and hemoglobin A(0) (Hexa) were certified by amino acid analysis via acid hydrolysis as reference materials (RMs) for the next step. For this peptide certification, three amino acids (proline, valine, and leucine) were determined by hydrolysis with 10 M hydrochloric acid at 130 degrees C for 48 h followed by ID-LC-MS/MS. Then, HbA(1c), content in blood was quantified with the ratio of specific proteolytic peptides from HbA(1c) and HbA(0) via enzyme digestion using ID-LC-MS/MS with the certified peptides as RMs and isotope-labeled peptides as internal standards. Results demonstrate complete traceability to SI-units throughout this procedure. Reliability was confirmed through comparative studies with commercially available RMs for HbA(1c), and other routine HbA(1c) diagnostic methods as well. Following full method validation, we applied this procedure to the certification of candidate hemolysate-certified RMs for HbA(1c) content, as well as 52 real clinical samples. All of the results showed the suitability of this method to act as a primary reference measurement procedure for HbA(1c) in complex biological samples. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.</P>

<P>Rottlerin has been shown to induce antiproliferation and apoptosis of human cancer cell lines. In this study, we demonstrate a novel mechanism of rottlerin-induced apoptosis via death receptor (DR) 5 upregulation. We found that treatment with rottlerin significantly induces DR5 expression both at its messenger RNA and protein levels. Downregulation of DR5 expression with small-interfering RNA (siRNA) efficiently attenuated rottlerin-induced apoptosis, showing that the critical role of DR5 in this cell death. Rottlerin-induced DR5 upregulation was accompanied by CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein-homologous protein (CHOP) protein expression and rottlerin-induced increase of DR5 promoter activity was diminished by mutation of a CHOP-binding site of DR5 promoter. Although rottlerin is known to be as an inhibitor of novel isoforms of protein kinase C (PKC), specifically PKC delta, not only suppression of PKC delta expression by siRNA but also overexpression of wild-type-PKC delta or dominant-negative-PKC delta did not affect the rottlerin-mediated induction of DR5 in our study. These results suggest that rottlerin induces upregulation of DR5 via PKC delta-independent pathway. Furthermore, subtoxic dose of rottlerin sensitizes human cancer cells, but not normal cells, to tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL)-mediated apoptosis. Thus, DR5-mediated apoptosis, which is induced by rottlerin alone or by the combined treatment with rottlerin and TRAIL, may offer a new therapeutic strategy against cancer.</P>
Solid lipid nanoparticles coated with silk fibroin

Solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) composed of stearic acid (SA) and ceramide (Cer) were prepared by an emulsification and solidification method using sodium lauryl sulfate (an anionic surfactant) as a stabilizer. And then, the SLN was coated with silk fibroin (SF) under an acidic condition by an electrostatic interaction. The size was tens of nanometers to hundreds of nanometers, and the coat around SA/Cer SLN was observed on the TEM photos. Following the thermograms of the SLN with and without SF coating, two phases, of which crystalline structures were different from each other, existed in the SLN. In vitro skin permeation experiment, the flux of Cer in 24h were about 26μg/cm2/h with SLN without SF coating, and about 55μg/cm2/h with SLN with coating. The SF coat of nanoparticles was positively charged, so it would strongly interact with negatively charged skins, enhancing the skin permeation of Cer.

A new triisopropylsilylethynyl anthracene derivative was synthesized with extended aromatic groups at the 2- and 6-positions of anthracene for application in a high-performance photodetector. To optimize charge transport characteristics and photodetection ability, single crystal with high aspect ratio was employed as photo-active semiconductor layer. When operated at room temperature under ambient conditions, the photodetector based on a single crystal showed a sensitive response to green light, with a responsivity >10A/W and specific detectivity on the order of 1011Jones. Based on a systematic analysis of the photocurrent behavior as a function of the interfacial properties, illuminated optical power and the applied bias, the operating mechanism of the photodetector was found to be a gain-generation process.
