<P>Compressed sensing theory has enabled an accurate, low-dose cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) reconstruction using a minimal number of noisy projections. However, the reconstruction time remains a significant challenge for practical implementation in the clinic. In this work, we propose a novel gradient projection algorithm, based on the Gradient-Projection-Barzilai-Borwein formulation (GP-BB), that handles the total variation (TV)-norm regularization-based least squares problem for the CBCT reconstruction in a highly efficient manner, with speed acceptable for routine use in the clinic.</P>
ACTH-producing neuroendocrine tumor of the pancreas

Tumors that arise from the endocrine pancreas, or the islets of pancreas, are called pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). Pancreatic NET have an incidence of <0.1 per one million persons, and can lead to secretion of ectopic adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH). Herein, we presented a case of patient with Cushing’s syndrome as a result of ACTH-producing pancreatic NET, who underwent successful laparoscopic distal pancreatosplenectomy. A 40-year-old Korean female patient with ophthalmologic discomfort, osteoporosis, and unexplained hypokalemia was admitted to our hospital. Under the suspicion of ACTH producing pancreatic NET after the diagnostic workup, we decided to perform surgical resection. Laparoscopic distal pancreatosplenectomy was performed; and the pathological examination revealed a 1.5 cm-sized grade 2 neuroendocrine tumor of the pancreas, which was encapsulated within the pancreatic parenchyma. After the operation, the patient no longer displayed cushingoid features. ACTH-producing pancreatic NET is rare, but can be one of the causes of Cushing’s syndrome. Surgical resection is a feasible option in treating ACTH-producing pancreatic NET.

TiO<sub>2</sub>-carbonized medium-density fiberboard (TiO<sub>2</sub>-cMDF) was investigated for adsorption and subsequent photodegradation of aqueous methylene blue (MB) under a 365 nm ultraviolet-A light emitting diode (UV-A LED) module. After two cycles of adsorption, four successive cycles of photodegradation were performed. For every cycle, TiO<sub>2</sub>-cMDF practically removed MB and followed pseudo-first order kinetics. Adsorption rate constants decreased from 6.7x10<sup>-3</sup>/h to 3.5x10<sup>-3</sup>/h and photodegradation rate constants showed a slight reduction from 10.3x10<sup>-3</sup>/h (first cycle) to 8.2x10<sup>-3</sup>/h (fourth cycle). After the experiment, three slabs of TiO<sub>2</sub>-cMDF (three equidistant spots per slab and three different SEM scans per spot) were subjected to scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) to evaluate the distribution of Ti on the surface and on the cross-section of TiO<sub>2</sub>-cMDF. Results of the EDS, in comparison to an untreated TiO<sub>2</sub>-cMDF, showed minor removal of Ti on the surface of TiO<sub>2</sub>-cMDF after the entire experimental period. The initial Ti thickness, about 40% of the cross-section of TiO<sub>2</sub>-cMDF, indicated that there were sufficient sites available for photocatalytic activity. Consequently, the outcomes suggests that TiO<sub>2</sub>-cMDF under a UV-A LED has improved photocatalytic performance in comparison to our previous work on UV-C tube irradiation.
Thermal Degradation of Mixed Hardwood Kraft Lignin by Pyrolysis-GC/MS

Trimethylsilylated kraft lignin (KL) was pyrolyzed for the investigation of structural changes. The pyrolysis was conducted at two different temperatures, 590℃ and 675℃, in a Curie-point pyrolyzer. The resulting pyrolysis degradation products were analyzed by gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer (GC/MS) and compared to milled wood lignins (MWLs) prepared from acacia and mixed hardwoods, the same hardwood species used in the production of KL. About 19 identified monolignol derivatives were detected at the pyrograms of KL and MWLs at both temperatures. The major peaks were identified as guaiacol, 4-methylguaiacol, 3-methoxycatechol, 4-vinylguaiacol, syringol, 4-methylsyringol, 4-vinylsyringol, syringaldehyde, and acetosyringone. These prominent peaks are a result of severe β-O-4 bond hydrolysis, elimination reactions, demethoxylation reactions, and bond cleavage at the β and γ carbons on the aliphatic side chains during the kraft pulping process. The S/G molar ratio of KL, MWL-acacia, and MWL-mixed hardwood at 675°C were 1.00, 0.42, and 0.87, respectively. Also, the S/G molar ratio at 590℃ were 0.77, 0.41, and 0.75, correspondingly. At higher temperatures, syringyl units were high in amounts. The S/G ratio obtained from pyrolysis-GC/MS had a similar tendency with the S/G ratio obtained from <sup>1</sup>H NMR at 1.13, 0.69, and 1.19, which suggest that pyrolysis-GC/MS is an alternative tool for the determination of S/G ratio of lignin without interference with carbohydrates and lipids.
Thermal Characterization of Kraft Lignin from Mixed Hardwood

Kraft lignin (KL), produced from mixed hardwoods in a local pulp mill, was investigated for its thermal properties by means of thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and thermomechanical analysis (TMA). Milled wood lignins (MWL-acacia and MWL-mixed hardwood), from the same hardwood species employed in the production of KL, were also prepared for comparison to KL. TGA of KL in the range of 105-800℃ under inert conditions indicated a 64.4% mass loss. At 800℃, 34.7% of residue remained, which was slightly higher than MWLs. KL’s thermal stability was attributed to its high carbon content (63.1%) as shown in the elemental analysis (EA). DSC of KL in the range of 100-200℃, a temperature region wherein the hydroxyl groups of lignin are dehydrated, indicated that KL had lower heat flow requirement than MWLs and this can be explained by the low oxygen content (EA, 28.8%) of KL. A decline in endothermic heat flow during the second heating revealed two transitions in KL: glass transition temperature (T<sub>g</sub>, 63.2℃) and softening temperature (T<sub>s</sub>, 148.6℃). The DSC T<sub>g</sub> of KL was not evident. Therefore, TMA was used for an accurate measurement of T<sub>g</sub> and resulted to 54.6℃, which was 8.6℃ lower than that of DSC.

지속가능 교통체계의 중요성에 대한 관심이 고조되면서 친환경 수단인 철도교통의 활성화가 그 어느 때 보다 주목 받고 있다. 이러한 기조에 편승하여 철도 차량 성능 개선에 따른 다양한 서비스 개선 방안들이 추진되고 있으며, 그 영향력을 가늠할 수 있는 서비스 품질의 계량화 연구의 필요성이 대두되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 관련연구의 국내외 동향을 살펴보고 선택실험법을 기반한 조사방법론과 한계대체율법에 근거한 가치추정방법론을 결합시킨 방법론을 제안하였다. 또한 SP조사 자료를 토대로 이항로짓모형을 구축하고 철도 차량의 성능 개선에 따른 서비스 품질개선 항목들의 경제적 가치를 추정하였다. 모형 추정결과는 서비스 품질 항목별 중요도를 파악할 수 있으며, 서비스 품질 개선에 매우 의미있게 적용될 수 있다. In recent times, the importance of sustainable transportation system has increasingly been awared. Also revitalization of railway which enables green transportation system is receiving more attention than the past. Accordingly, various railway service improvements are being promoted according to the performance improvement of rolling stocks and the necessity of quantitative research that can estimate the influence of service quality is becoming important. In this paper, we review the related categories through the Korean and abroad studies about transit service quality. This research intends to propose a methodology which merge choice experiments and economic value based on marginal rate of substitution method. The binary logit model was estimated by data from states preference(SP) surveys and economic value of their attributes of the service quality of train was also estimated as the performance improvement of rolling stocks. The estimation results will make it possible to understand importance of attributes of service quality of railways, and can meaningfully be applied to improvement of service quality of railways.
