미디어 리터러시 구성요인과 부모의 중재 행위, 아동의 이용조절 인식간의 상관관계 = The relationships among media literacy constructs, parental mediation, and children`s self-awareness of media use control

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

It is important to approach media literacy not as a single concept but as a set of diverse sub-constructs. This study aims at exploring how media literacy constructs were being related to family communication context where parental mediation behavior seemed to play a significant role. By analyzing the relationships among three main variables including media literacy, parental mediation, and self-awareness of media use control, this study attempted to derive some meaningful implications for enhancing children`s media literacy competence. The results showed that parental mediation were related in a various pattern according to the types of media literacy constructs, in which the role of parent-child con versation seemed noteworthy. Self-awareness of media use control appeared as an significant variable as well, suggesting that children with higher self-awareness tend to comply more with the norms and ethics of media use. The relationship between parental mediation and self-awareness was discovered, albeit limited. The results of this study shed light on the possibility of media literacy education in family settings differentiated from school-centered education. The weaknesses of the study and proposals for future research were discussed in conclusion.
