Bowen의 자기분화 개념에 근거한 어머니의 양육 경험 탐구 = Inquiry into Parenting Experiences Based on Bowen’s Concept of Self-Differentiation

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study was to examine the parenting experiences of mothers, regarding self-differentiation. The parenting experiences of mothers with a low level of self-differentiation was examined through an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA).
The research was carried out using 9 mothers, as the participants of the study, who were classified as having a low level of self-differentiation. Data was collected through in-depth personal and focus group interviews. For data analysis, IPA was used.
The findings from the research are as follows.
First, the parenting experience regarding to the growth process of the mothers with low levels of self-differentiation can be expressed as ‘mothers who over function and who adapt to it.’Secondly, the parenting-style of the mothers displayed ‘overprotection and control’ due to their personal traits related to their low levels of self-differentiation.
Also, the mothers with low levels of self-differentiation realized the influence of their experiences of parenting from their birth family and the effect it has had on their own parenting. This realization encouraged them to strive to be better mothers in the future.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 자기분화와 관련된 어머니의 양육 경험을 탐구하는데 목적을 두고, 자기분화 수준이 낮은 어머니들의 양육경험을 해석학적 현상학적 접근 방법을 통해 탐색하였다. 본 연구의 참여자는 자기분화 수준이 낮은 것으로 구분된 어머니 9명이었다. 자료 수집은 심층 개별 인터뷰와 포커스 그룹 인터뷰로 이루어졌으며, 자료 분석은 해석학적 현상학적 분석 방법을 사용하였다. 연구결과 자기분화 정도가 낮은 어머니들의 성장과정에서 받은 양육 경험은 ‘과대 기능한 엄마와 그에 적응한 나’였으며, 현재 보이는 양육에서의 특징은 낮은 자기분화에서 비롯된 인성적 특성이 영향을 미쳐 자녀에 대해 ‘과보호와 통제’ 행동을 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 자기분화가 낮은 어머니들에게 현재의 양육은 원가족에서 경험했던 어머니의 양육에서 벗어나고 싶으나 벗어날 수 없는 출구 없는 미로와 같은 것으로 느껴졌고, 자녀가 자신의 틀에 맞춰지는 것을 보면서 어머니라는 역할의 영향력을 인식하게 되는 것이었다. 그리고, 이러한 인식은 과거에서 비롯된 자신의 양육을 돌아보고 좋은 엄마가 되기 위한 노력과 도움의 필요성을 갖게 하였다.
