어머니의 정신건강 수준과 유아의 문제행동과의 관계 분석 = Analysis of the Relationship between the Mental Health of Mothers and the Problem Behaviors of Preschoolers

The purpose of this study was, to examine the relationship between the mental health(levels of anxiety, depression, impulsiveness and aggressiveness) of mothers and the problem behaviors of their preschool children. The subjects in this study were 558 three-, four- and five- year-old preschoolers and their mothers. The problem behaviors of the preschoolers and the mental health(levels of anxiety, depression, impulsiveness and aggressiveness) of the mothers were investigated. The findings of the study were as follows: First, depression was the most severe symptom among mothers, followed by impulsiveness, aggressiveness and anxiety. Second, there were no differences among the preschoolers in problem behaviors according to the level of anxiety experienced by the mothers. Third, the problems behaviors of the young children varied with the levels of depression, impulsiveness and aggressiveness in mothers. When a post-hoc analysis was done, the children of mothers who were in the high risk group or in the potential risk group showed more problem behaviors than those of the mothers who were not at risk. The findings of this study suggest that in-depth research efforts should be made investigating the relationship between the anxiety of mothers and the problem behaviors of preschoolers, and that when it comes to the problem behaviors of preschoolers, not only the preschoolers themselves but also the emotional, mental and psychological dispositions of mothers such as depression, impulsiveness and aggressiveness should all be taken into consideration.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 어머니의 정신건강 수준과 유아의 문제행동과의 관계를 알아보고자 시도한 것이다. 어머니의 정신건강은 불안과 우울 및 충동성과 공격성을 하위 변인으로 포함하여 조사하였으며, 유아의 문제행동은 외현화 및 내면화 문제행동으로 구성된 도구를 이용하여 측정하였다. 3, 4, 5세 유아 558명에 대한 문제행동과 어머니의 정신건강 수준을 조사하여 분석한 본 연구의 결과는 첫째, 유아 어머니의 정신건강 수준은 우울 수준이 가장 높게 나타났고, 다음으로 충동성, 공격성 수준으로 나타났으며, 불안 수준이 상대적으로 가장 낮게 나타났다. 둘째, 어머니의 정신건강의 하위 변인 중 불안 수준에 따른 유아의 문제행동 차이는 없는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 어머니의 정신건강 하위 변인 중 우울, 충동성 및 공격성 수준에 따른 유아 문제행동은 차이가 있었다. 사후분석에서 우울, 충동성 및 공격성 수준이 고위험군이거나 잠재적 위험군에 속한 어머니를 둔 유아가 일반군 어머니를 둔 유아보다 문제행동이 높게 나타났다. 본 연구 결과는 유아의 문제행동을 감소시키기 위해서는 문제행동에 직접 접근하는 방법과 함께 유아 어머니의 정신건강, 특히 우울, 충동성 및 공격성 수준에도 관심을 두고 이를 개선하기 위한 방법도 함께 강구되어야 한다는 것을 시사해준다.
