그로테스크 일러스트레이션을 통한 SNS의 다중성 표현 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 그로테스크 일러스트레이션을 이용하여 SNS의 문제점을 이야기한다. 그로테스크는 전달하고자 하는 메시지를 강하게 말해주는 이점을 지니고 있지만 기괴하고 징그러운 이미지로 인하여 천박하거나 비주류로 취급을 받는다. 이러한 그로테스크가 어떻게 사람들의 시선을 끌어당기며 그로테스크에만 존재하는 매력이 무엇인지 연구하고자 했다. 먼저 선행연구를 통하여 그로테스크의 어원과 역사, 문학과 미술에서 말하는 그로테스크의 미에 관련하여 알아보았다. 또한, 현대에 들어 두드러지게 나타난 그로테스크 일러스트레이터들을 조사하고 그들의 표현방법에 대해 연구하였다. 연구자는 비주류인 그로테스크의 이점과 기능을 분석하고 최근 문제 되고 있는 SNS의 다중성을 일러스트레이션으로 시각화하였다.
SNS는 사람들이 쉽게 커뮤니케이션을 하기 위해 등장하였다.사회의 모든면을 가지고 공간의 제약이 없는 소통의 장으로, 세계 각국의 사용자들을 대상으로 계속 커져가고 있다. SNS 안에서는 우리의 모습을 내비쳐야 하는 의무는 없다. 예명과 익명을 사용하고 사용자들의 목적에 따라 다양한 성격을 지니고 활동한다.ﾠ이처럼 기술적 진보에 의해 획득한 가상의 공간에서는 자기의 생각과 의도를 솔직하게 드러내고 싶은 양면적이며 동시적인 인간형을 목도하게 되는데 이러한 표현의 욕구에 있어서 양면성과 동시성이 현존하는 현대인의 내면적 자아를 ‘다중성’이라는 단어로 설명한다.
본 연구는 SNS를 통해 본 세상 속 사건들과 분산된 아이덴티티에 관한 문제들을 일러스트레이션으로 보여준다. 인간관계에 관한 이야기와 정서적 관계에서 드러나는 가면들 일깨우며 현시대는 어떠한 방향으로 흘러가고 있는지에 주안점을 둔다. 그 안에서 쾌락과 불확실한 현상에 집착하고 삶의 의미와 자신의 존재에 관해 무관심한 현대인들의 모습을 키워드로 선정하였다.
이를 바탕으로 작품에서 검은색과 파란색을 기본으로 그로테스크 일러스트레이션 작품을 만들었다. 거친 느낌을 주기 위해 얇은 펜을 이용하여 작업하였고, 애니메이션은 반복적인 움직임을 통해 이야기하는 사건들이 뫼비우스의 띠처럼 반복되는 일상으로 표현하였다. 일러스트레이션 작품은 관객이 관찰하고 간접적으로 메시지가 전달되는 것에 목적으로 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This essay uses grotesque illustration to discuss the problems of SNS. Grotesque illustration has the benefit of delivering messages assertively. However, it is regarded non-mainstream and vulgar for its abnormal and violent images. We wanted to research how this illustration technique is perceived by individuals and the uniqueness of it. First, a pre-study was conducted to research the origin, history, literature, and art of grotesque illustration. Furthermore, we also researched the reasons behind the rise of
this technique in the current era and the different ways of expression. The researcher has visualized the merits and effects of grotesque illustration to discuss issues surrounding SNS redundancy.
SNS gained popularity as an easy channel of communication. It is an open forum which people can debate about socio-economic issues without restrictions of their whereabout. The number of users are still growing worldwide. There is no obligation for those in this sphere to show their true identity. Thus, people often use an alias or anonymous profile depending on their intentions and needs within the virtual space of SNS. It can be said that people’s desire of free expression of their emotions and thoughts and the reluctance of revealing their true identity coexist on SNS today.
This study uses illustrations to visualise the scattered identity of individuals in the real and virtual world. It addresses the different masks people put on in their personal relationships and their emotional expressions. This research has selected the coexistence of pleasure of freely expressing thoughts and emotions and the obsession of their virtual status on SNS as key words.
Based on the findings of the research, a grotesque illustration piece using black and blue was created. A thin-point pen was used to make it rough and coarse look. The repetitive movements on the animation was used as a metaphor of a repetitive daily life. The purpose of this illustration piece is to imply these messages to those observing it.
