존 코릴리아노의 <오스티나토에 의한 환상곡> 연구: 양식적 다원주의를 중심으로 = A Study on Stylistic Pluralism as Exemplified in John Corigliano’s < Fantasie on an Ostinato >

국문 초록 (Abstract)

21세기 미국을 대표하는 작곡가 중 한 사람인 존 코릴리아노는 과거의 전통 양식과 20세기의 현대적 기법을 결합한 다수의 작품들을 통해 독창성을 인정받고 있으며, 극적이면서도 풍부한 표현력으로 폭넓은 대중성을 확보하고 있다. 그의 대표적 피아노 작품인 <오스티나토에 의한 환상곡>은 20세기 후반 새로운 패러다임으로 나타난 포스트모더니즘의 양식적 다원주의 경향이 반영된 작품이다. 본 연구는 코릴리아노의 피아노 음악에 친숙하지 않은 피아니스트들과 교수자, 그리고 학생들에게 <오스티나토에 의한 환상곡>에 대한 문헌적 정보를 제공하여 레퍼토리로 활용할 수 있도록 하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 코릴리아노의 작곡 경향을 살펴보았으며, <오스티나토에 의한 환상곡>에 나타난 각기 다른 시대의 다양한 양식들과 기법들에 대해 상세히 분석하고 연주 시 꼭 알아야 할 음악적 특징들을 고찰하였다. 코릴리아노의 <오스티나토에 의한 환상곡>은 바로크, 고전, 20세기의 양식들과 기법들이 절충적으로 사용된 작품으로 연주자에게 지적 호기심을 불러일으키고 동시에 음악적 충족감을 줄 수 있는 현대 레퍼토리로 충분한 가치를 지니고 있다고 본다.

John Corigliano is one of the representative American composers in the 21st century, appreciated by a wide range of audience with dramatic expression and richness in music. He has established himself as a prominent composer through a number of works, combined with the traditional styles and innovative style of 20th century. One of his notable piano works, < Fantasie on an Ostinato >, reflects stylistic pluralism of postmodernism that has emerged as a new paradigm in the late 20th century. The purpose of this study is to provide a informative guide for fellow pianists, piano teachers, and students, who are not familiar with the piano music of Corigliano and < Fantastie on an Ostinato >. The study examined Corigliano’s musical background and musical characteristics. And I analyzed the diverse styles of different period shown in the work, and examined the major musical features that the pianist should know. < Fantaise on an Ostinato >, which was discussed in this study, reflects stylistic pluralism, using various musical styles from Baroque, Classic, 20th-century in eclectic way. It is worth enough as a contemporary concert repertoire that are both musically and intellectually satisfying to the performer.
