The National Technical Qualification License for Cosmetologists covers basic knowledge and repetitive skin training. In rapidly changing industrial structure, industry needs have also changed accordingly. To properly respond to these circumstances, it is required to check the qualification system in consideration of practical
perspectives in field assignment for the National Technical Qualification License for Cosmetologists. In addition, the goal of retraining programs should be to meet diverse customer needs by enhancing practicality.
For this, a questionnaire survey was performed against those preparing for the license test, those already with the license and beauty salon workers in their 10-50s living in Daejeon, Sejong Special Self-governing City, Chungcheongnam-do, Chungcheongbuk-do and other regions from September 1 to October 18, 2022. A total of 319 copies were used for final analysis. The collected data were analyzed, using SPSS 28.0, and the results found the followings:
First, in terms of demographic characteristics, ‘female’, ‘40s’, ‘married’, ‘high school graduate or below’, ‘15 years or longer’, ‘owner’ and ‘Daejeon’ were the highest in gender, age, marital status, education, length of service, job title and residence respectively.
Second, when asked if they hold the National Technical Qualification License for Cosmetologists, those with ‘Yes’ were higher. When asked why they want to obtain the license, when they obtained it, how many times they took the license test, where they were trained for the license and how long it took for preparing for the
license, ‘employment or business startup’, ‘July 2016 or later’, ‘once’, ‘hairdressing academy’ and ‘5-6 months’ were most responded each.
Third, according to the validity and reliability testing of measurement instruments, factor loading was 0.4 or higher in all categories. In other words, they are sufficiently valid. In addition, reliability analysis results were higher than the threshold (0.6), confirming that measurement data are internally consistent.
Fourth, concerning differences in field practices by general characteristics, ‘female’, ‘high school graduate or below’, ‘15 years or longer’, ‘owner’ and ‘Chungcheongnam-do & Chungcheongbuk-do’ were high in gender, education, length of service, job title and residence respectively with statistically significant differences (p<.001).
Fifth, in differences between satisfaction with field assignment and a necessity of reeducation by general characteristics, the satisfaction with field assignment was high in ‘female’, ‘high school graduate or below’, ‘owner’ and ‘Daejeon, Chungcheongnam-do, Chungcheongbuk-do, etc.’. In addition, a necessity of reeducation was high in ‘15 years or longer’ and ‘owner’.
Sixth, according to descriptive statistics on utilization of practical tasks, satisfaction with field assignment and a necessity of reeducation, they were 3.95, 3.80 and 4.25 in average respectively. The correlation
analysis results found that utilization of practical tasks had a positive influence on satisfaction with field assignment and a necessity of reeducation. In addition, a positive correlation was found between
satisfaction with field assignment and a necessity of reeducation.
Seventh, in the influence of utilization of field assignment for the National Technical Qualification License for Cosmetologists on satisfaction with field assignment and a necessity of reeducation, a positive effect was observed. In addition, satisfaction with field assignment revealed a positive influence on a necessity of reeducation. According to analysis of the mediating effects of satisfaction with field assignment, the z-value (permanent wave) was 2.028, confirming the mediating effects (p<.01).
The above results conclude that the utilization of field assignment for the National Technical Qualification License for Cosmetologists has an influence on satisfaction with the assignment and a necessity of reeducation and that satisfaction with field assignment affect a necessity of reeducation.
It is anticipated that the study results would be used in examining the system for the purpose of narrowing a gap between labor and education markets, changing people’s perception of a necessity of reeducation and performing future studies as basic data.
