리버풀 국제노예제박물관의 전시내러티브 -노예제 역사의 기억문화 만들기- = The Exhibition Narrative of the International Slavery Museum - Making Cultural Memory of the History of Slavery -

This study analyses the Exhibition Narrative of the International Slavery Museum. The Museum newly opened in August 23, 2007 at Albert Dock, Merseyside, Liverpool. The refurbishment of Albert Dock was the typical case of Heritage Industry development in 1980s. The Museum is located in the 3rd floor of the National Merseyside Maritime Museum. In 1994, the Transatlantic Slavery Gallery started in the Maritime Museum and expanded into the International Slavery Museum in 2007. The three main galleries of Slavery Museum focuses on the history of slave trade not on the history of white abolitionism. Through the exhibition of the museum, slavery history and legacy included in the public discourse of British society. The Exhibition Narrative of the Museum shows the agency and resistance of Enslaved Africans and tries to overcome the victimization of slave. However the project of out of victimization is only partly successful because the controversial slave ship Brookes image still exists in the Museum. Furthermore, the case of commercialization and consumerism is found in the Museum shop. Consequently the International Slavery Museum does not represent the totality of the History of Slavery.
