The purpose of this study is to form and construct a role playing program in group counseling for elementary senior students to prevent verbal violence and validate its effect on them.
Main objectives are as follows :
First, how to develop effective role playing in group counseling to prevent verbal violence for elementary senior students.
Second, to prove how much effective a role playing program in group counseling is on prevention of verbal violence.
For this research, the students in 6th grade from S elementary school located in Kyung sang province participated in this study.
They were divided into two groups ; 30 in the experimental group and 30 the control group.
This program is based on consultation Program Development Model by Park In-u(1995).
The implementation of the program was conducted during the Discretionary activity class two times per week from September 10th to October 8th, totalling 10 sessions.
The test tool was 'Verbale Aggressiveness Scale' of Infant and Wigley (1986). For data processing, 'Mixed ANOVA' from SPSS/Window 12 was used to analyze statistical results, and the analysis of the experience reports and the counselor observation contents was also indicated to supplement the limitations of quantitative results.
The results obtained from this research are as follows.
There were some significant differences in verbal violence between the Experimental group and the Control group.
The analysis of the sub area report showed that there were some notable differences in Profanity, Ridicule, Harassment but not in Ridicule and Blackmail between two groups : Experimental group and Control group.
According to the experience reports and the observations by the counselors, this program also has positive effect to prevent verbal violence for the seniors in elementary school.
Futhermore, this Group counseling program made the frequency of verbal violence decrease for the seniors in elementary school.
This Group counseling program was developed with some particular situations that is fitted on the senior students traits.
It can be a good material for the life guidance involved in verbal violence in elementary school as well.
Here are some suggestions for the subsequent research.
First, it will be more effective to conduct Group Counseling for the harmers in Blackmail section and Curse section which only showed us slight differences statistically in this study.
Second, many various study should be developed for the effective program to prevent verbal violence.
Third, the preventive education program for the elementary juniors should also be developed considering the importance of this program and the seriousness of verbal violence.
