In Korea, Cultural Technology industry has developed with the rapid growth of the Information Technology industry. The motion picture is one of the mainstream media coming into the CT industry. The positive circle of investment is established in the film industry by its big market share of the domestic film industry. On the other hand, the investment for the comics and animation industry were withered because of the absence of killer-contents.
Under these market situations, One Source Multi Use business model in CT industry is considered one of the easiest ways to make profits out of the industry. Especially, using comics or novels as a source of OSMU that tries to convert them to the motion picture is the most frequent case in the industry. American film industry, Hollywood, which possesses 80 % of world's film market, has produced a integrating media content that originated from the hero comics.
Along with the evolution of visual image, Hollywood that was eager to bring fresh ideas and interesting narratives to the industry has started to look for new contents. As a result, various contents such as science fictions, fantasy epics, and comic books has been using as a original source of movies.
In case of Korea, there is a comic publishing industry. It produces, in addition, a lot of commercial contents that rely heavily on published comics as an original context. As some of these intermediated contents have made success in the film and television drama market, the business model of integrating comics with visual images has become a mainstream part of CT industry.
Even though many studies of this field, adapting theories of media conversion, have done, most of them focused merely on the adaptation model between novels and motion pictures. Several researchers studied for converting comics to motion picture, and they insisted that the ground concept of the adaptation theory simply focused on the features of media in relations to comic books. In fact, they did not specify and reflect on detailed adapting methods.
Accordingly this study tends to find out effective ways of character adapting methods when the transition happens from one medium to another by conducting analysis of the character adapting forms.
