빈곤의 대물림에 관한 빈곤가정 청소년의 인식연구 : Q방법론적 분석을 중심으로 = A Study on the Perceptions of Intergenerational Transmission of Poverty among Adolescents from Poor Families: focus on Q methodology

This study set out to analyze the subjective characteristics of adolescents from poor families regarding a social phenomenon called intergenerational transmission of poverty. By employing Q methodology to examine intergenerational transmission of poverty from the standpoint of agent rather than observer, the investigator tried to categorize the subjects' subjective perceptions of it and figure out its subjective structure including each category's characteristics. The previous experiential studies on intergenerational transmission of poverty were consulted to make up 25 Q statements. And a Q survey was taken among 32 adolescents from poor families. According to the analysis results, the adolescents from poor families had three different perspectives and opinions about the causes of intergenerational transmission of poverty; they were the family's psychological factor, the society's structural factor, and the family's problematic behavioral factor. The subjects especially found more psychological factors such as the family's neglect and determination and more problematic behavioral factor such as violence and alcoholism than the society's structural factor. The results indicate that the practice services of social welfare to address intergenerational transmission of poverty should focus on interventions in the family's problematic behavior, determination to escape from poverty, and reinforcement of their interest. In particular, it is required to develop such social welfare service as can help the clients cultivate healthy perceptions and egos to make use of the social systems and environments rather than the hardware of the systems and environments to discontinue intergenerational transmission of poverty.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구에서는 빈곤의 대물림에 관한 경험적 연구들로부터 25개의 Q진술문을 작성하여, 빈곤가정 청소년 32명을 대상으로 Q설문조사를 실시하였다. 분석결과 빈곤가정 청소년들은 빈곤의 대물림의 원인에 대해 3가지의 구별되는 관점과 견해를 갖고 있는데, 그 유형은 가족내적 원인, 환경적 요인, 가족내부의 문제행동요인이었다. 이 분석결과는 빈곤의 대물림의 원인에 대한 서로 다른 견해와 태도가 있다는 것을 실증하는 것으로 특히 사회의 구조적 요인보다 가족의 무관심, 의지와 같은 심리적 요인과 폭력, 알콜중독과 같은 문제 행동요인의 유형이 더 많은 것으로 나타났고, 이로 인해 빈곤탈출에 어려움이 있다고 인식하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 특히 가족내 폭력에 대해서는 2가지 대별되는 관점인 가족내적 심리적 원인과 가족내부의 문제행동요인에서 모두 의미있는 진술문으로 나타나 빈곤가정의 가정폭력이 개인내적인 성장발달뿐만 아니라 이로 인해 빈곤이 대물림된다고 인식될 만큼 심각한 문제임을 보여주고 있었다. 이에 대해 빈곤의 대물림에 관한 사회복지 실천서비스는 가족의 문제행동에 대한 개입과 빈곤탈출에 대한 의지와 가족의 관심강화에 중점을 두고 이루어져야 할 것이다.
