신문을 활용한 읽기 능력 신장 방안 연구 = (A) study on schemes to improve reading comprehension using newspapers

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Ultimate goal of Korean education is to improve ability in utilizing the language. Reading ability do a very important role to improve utilizing language ability in a field of reading comprehension.
Teaching processes and effects can be different following features of materials that are given to students during class of Korean education. One of the materials, application of newspaper is considered as having a educational value in cultivating critical, analytical and more extensive ability to think, and using newspaper can break away textbook-oriented of present education system.
The purpose of this study is to present schemes to improve reading comprehension utilizing newspapers. To achievethe goal, vocabulary and reading comprehension should be based on students' abilities. This thesis started with precondition that the most effective teaching is that vocabulary and reading comprehension is taught integratedly.
Students' abilities of vocabulary and reading comprehension that can make effective result in reading comprehension instruction are improved through their abundant language experiences. But present institution only using vocabularies and reading sources on the textbook is limited to some degree. To overcome previous problems, this study is using newspapers because they can be easily got and used students and have various reading sources.
To examine the outcome of the study, two groups were divided into one group for studying and the other group for comparison, which was carried out for 6 weeks. The period of study seems to little short but the group for studying was the class under researcher's charge. So this study can be enforced not only during class time but also during morning study hours for 10 minutes.
The points for the study on schemes to improve vocabulary and reading comprehension abilities utilizing newspapers that are addressed in this thesis are as follows:
First, does the instruction for vocabulary and reading comprehension utilizing newspapers contribute to improvement of students' reading comprehension?
Second, if teacher teaches students using newspapers. Become students had high interest in newspapers?
The results of the study with regard to the points above are as follows:
First, when systemic and intentional instruction compares with unplanned instruction, there are many differences. So, systematic and intentional instruction is needed.
Second, there are many materials to improve students' reading comprehension, but newspapers are the most valuable material. Newspapers have various information, also make students have interest and more extensive ability to think about their daily life and improve actual reading comprehension.
Third, it is more effective to improve students' reading comprehension when vocabulary and reading comprehension were instructed integratedly. In actual school instructions, vocabulary teaching is integrated into reading instruction in schools, but they are not related efficiently. And it is recognized that instruction of Chinese characters is important.
Forth, reading comprehension abilities can be improved not by once of instruction but by persistent reading activities. In the view of the difference between the group for comparison that have done on particular activities and compared with the group for studying, reading comprehension abilities can be more efficient when constant reading activities are done.
