인문사회과학영역 : 아시아 지역춤의 전망과 과제 = Humanities and Social Sciences : The Prospect and Task of Asian Dance

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study is concerned with the prospect and practical task of Asian dance in the face of the 21st century, the age of Asia. To put it more specifically, it is intended to suggest the ways in which the dance artists and educators of Asian countries including Korea should develop a variety of local and regional dance art that originated from each country in this area in the contemporary context. It can be stated that the value of dance is wide-ranging. In other words, its value encompasses the physical, the spiritual and the social. But until now, the regional meaning or value that dance art could have in the global age has been largely understudied. In this respect, this study is, by dealing with the prospect and task of Asian regional dance, expected to bring to light an extended idea with regard to the value of dance. To illustrate, it could be claimed that dance has a value of play, of cultual tourism, and of cultural contents. The prospect of Asian regional dance seems hopeful for two main reasons: there exist numerous relevant organizations which are interested in cultures of Asia and besides, the number of tourists in this part of the world is on the increase. In this context, I would like to suggest that the value aspect of dance art should be illuminated and that on the basis of such efforts, Asian regional dance should be vitalized. The task proposed are as follows; first, festivals of Asian dance need to be further activated; secondly, dance performance should be associated with tourism; thirdly, Asian dance related resources, including archives, museums, and performing venues, should be established so that cultural contents of dance art may be developed; last but not least, folk or ethnic dance related research and scholarly exchange and seminars should be encouraged in the universities, graduate schools and institutes in Asian countries.
