현대건축의 경계해체적 경향에 관한 연구 = (A) Study on the Border-Dismantling Tendency in the Contemporary Architecture

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문의 목적은 현대건축공간의 경계해체 현상과 재구조화 논쟁이 상호 어떠한 관계성을 갖는지에 대해 고찰하는 것이다.
현재 인문, 철학, 조형예술 등의 재현분야와 도시지리학, 경제학 등의 공간구조 분야에서 경계해체 재현양식과 결합된 Mall화 현상을 바라보는 관점이 매우 상반적인 경향을 보이고 있다. 재현적 측면에서는 탈구조화의 시각이 강하며, 공간구조 부문에서는 재구조화의 시각으로 보고 있어서 전혀 상반된 입장을 보이고 있다.
이들의 학문적 관점과 다루는 내용자체는 거시적(도시지리학, 지역학, 경제학)인 것과 미시적(예술, 조형 등)인 것의 간격차이가 현격하여 분석의 어려움이 존재한다. 건축은 이러한 거시적인 내용과 미시적 내용이 하나로 통합되어 물성화 되는 분야이므로 혼란의 경향이 가중되고 있다.
본 논문은 현재의 현대 건축공간이 각론적 차이와 특성과는 상관없이 경계해체화 된 재현양식과 결합한 Mall의 요소가 삽입되는 현상이 철학적 담론(특히 하버마스와 료타르의 현대성 논쟁)과 어떠한 관련성을 가지고 있는지에 대해서 살펴봄으로써 Mall화 현상을 이해할 수 있는 기준을 마련할 수 있다고 판단하고 연구를 진행하고자 한다.
경계해체 현상의 분석에 대한 혼란과 철학적 담론 및 재현양상의 담론사이의 논쟁이 어떠한 관련성을 맺고 있는지를 분석함으로써 현대건축공간의 통제양태를 판단할 수 있을 것이다.
현재 동시대의 탈구조적 경계해체 디자인과 결합된 Mall적인 성향을 지닌 공간을 분석하는 기준을 살펴보면, 학자들마다 다양한 의견들을 내놓고 있으며, 그것들을 분석하는 기준도 제각각이어서 혼란스런 경향이 강하다. 학자들에 따라서는 공간구조와 재현적 측면을 명확하게 구분하지 않고 일체화 된 경향으로 판단하는 경우도 있으며, 공간구조적 측면과 재현적 측면의 분석이 완전히 다른 양상으로 파악되는 경우도 있다.
현대성을 분석하는 담론 중에 하버마스와 료타르의 모더니티와 포스트모더니티의 담론이 있다. 이 첨예한 논쟁 역시 분석의 혼란함이 존재하여 여전히 논의가 진행중이다. 특히 이것을 건축적으로 적용하여 분석하는데 있어서, 도시지리학, 지역학, 경제학 등과 같은 거시적 관점과 미시적 재현양태와의 간격의 차이가 크기 때문에 이러한 상황을 정확히 이해하는데 상당한 어려움이 존재한다.
본 논문은 하버마스와 료타르의 논쟁을 분석하여 구조주의로부터 후기구조주의 담론상의 논쟁의 혼란상황을 이해하고 이것을 건축분야에 적용하여 분석할 수 있는 기준을 만들고자 한다. 특히, 요즈음 각론시설과는 상관없이 대부분의 공간에 Mall적 요소가 삽입되는 상황을 어떻게 해석해야 할지에 대한 기준을 마련할 수 있을 것으로 예상한다.
사회현상을 파악하는 방식에는 다양한 방법론이 존재하지만, 현대사회는 자본의 힘이 근본적인 원동력이 되는 경우가 대부분이기 때문에 자본의 진화과정과 공간의 형성 및 재현의 관계는 절대적 불가분의 관계에 있다. 또한 서비스업인 건축설계는 대부분 자본에 종속된 움직임을 보이게 마련이다. 건축은 항상 각 시대의 절대적 힘의 원동력이 되는 시대의 목적성을 대변해왔기 때문에 권력의 대리인의 역할에서 자유로울 수 없게 마련이다. 자본시장이 활발해지면서 자본 집약의 역사는 생산체계와 원활한 소비체계의 진화과정과 그 맥을 같이 하고 있다. 또한 생산체계는 더 많은 자본을 축적시키기 위한 통제의 방법론이기도 했다. 즉, 좀 더 효율적이고 유연하게 생산을 늘릴 수 있는 통제의 기제이다.
자본주의 체제에서 생산과 소비의 순환주기는 점점 가속도를 더해가야만 그 체제가 유지되고 경쟁이 될 수 있으므로, 건축의 공간 및 재현의 공간 역시 그러한 순환사이클에 맞는 구조로 변화해 나갈 수밖에 없다. 이러한 시각에서는 자본의 진화과정은 조그마한 행위 하나 자체도 절대적으로 목적이 존재하며 건축공간이 변하고 진화해나가는 방향 역시 자본진화의 목적과 그 결과가 절대적인 인과관계에 따른 결정론적인 시각으로 될 수밖에 없다. 이러한 관점에서 공간구조는 스스로 조직화 되는 과정을 거칠 수 없다. 권력체계의 권력의지나 자본에 의한, 목적에 따른 결과일 뿐이다. 목적의 다양화가 실현되는 과정에 있어서 외부에서 관찰해보면 유기체와 같이 유기적, 유동적인 양태를 취하는 것처럼 보일 뿐이다.
축적양식과 재현양식은 불가분의 관계를 지니고 있으며 축적양식의 진화과정에 따른 후속적 변화양상을 보이고 있다. 따라서 건축분야에서 재현양식을 판단하기 위해서는 축적양식과 연동하여 분석하는 기준이 필요하다.
현재 동시대 건축에서 두 가지 주요 화두가 존재한다.
첫째, 공간구조적인 측면에서는 대부분의 건축공간의 Mall化 현상과
둘째, 재현적 측면에서 건축 표현에서는 탈구조적 '경계해체' 현상이 그것이다.
현재 건축분야에서 탈구조적 경계해체 디자인과 결합된 Mall화 현상은 자본축적체계에 관한 분석보다는 재현적 경향 하에서만 분석되고 있는 실정이다. 건축공간의 Mall화 경향은 다음과 같다. 모더니즘의 공간은 공간과 건축어휘에 있어서 기능과 역할이 확실하게 구분되어 있었으며 현재 건축공간은 각 기능을 떠나서 경계와 한계를 인지하기 힘들 정도의 대규모 Mall속의 한 기능으로 변해가고 있다. 즉, 대부분의 공간이 상업화된 소비공간인 Mall 속에서 통제받고 있다. 공간구조의 측면에서 언제나 내부를 지향하고 끝이 없는 유연적 공간과 반복적으로 증식된 공간속에서 공간의 한계를 잃어버리고 방향성을 잃어버리는 Mall화 현상이 가속화되고 있다, 상업공간은 말할 것도 없고, 공항, 역사, 교회, 교육공간, 심지어는 군대까지도 쇼핑 Mall화 되어가고 있는 상황이다.
현재 Mall화 되는 가운데 경계해체적인 디자인 요소가 가미된 건축작품들을 분석할 때, 논문들의 대부분은 재현적인 측면의 경계해체 현상을 철학적, 과학적 측면(디지털 기술의 발전)에서 분석하는 것이 대부분이다. 하버마스와 료타르의 현대성에 대한 논쟁만큼이나 건축분야의 현상을 해석함에 있어서는 더 큰 분석의 혼란이 나타나고 있는 것이 사실이다.
현재 건축공간의 Mall화 현상이 광범위하게 나타나는 상황과 현대성을 바라보는 담론의 혼란상황의 핵심은 무엇인지 규명하고 이러한 현상을 바라보는 기준을 마련해야 할 필요성이 있다. 또한 이것은 경제적 진화과정과 어떠한 관계가 있을까? 본 논문은 현재 건축계에서 거의 같은 현상(경계해체 현상)에 대해서 그토록 다양한 해석이 나오는 원인과 문제점에 대한 의문으로부터 시작되었다.
이상의 문제의식에 따라 본 논문의 대의적인 목적은 다음과 같다.
1. 하버마스와 료타르의 재구조화 논쟁의 혼란사항을 분석함으로써 현대성을 바라보는 기준을 마련한다.
2. 현대건축의 경계해체 현상이 광범위하게 나타나는 것과 분석상의 혼란의 원인이 무엇인지 고찰한다.
3. 재구조화 논쟁과 Mall화 현상을 분석하는데 있어서 혼란원인의 공통점과 차이점을 상호 비교 분석하여 어떠한 상관성이 있는지에 대해 고찰한다.
본 연구의 연구대상은 다음과 같다.
첫 번째로 공간구조에 있어서는,
자본주의가 본격적으로 발전하기 시작하면서 발생했던 아케이드(박람회 건축)에서, 백화점, 그리고 현재 상업 Mall과 Mall화로 진행되어 나타나는 다양한 유사 Mall형태의 집단들을 그 대상으로 한다. 특히 유사 Mall 공간들의 대상을 집중적으로 조사하며 다음과 같은 건축 공간을 살펴보기로 한다.
1) Shopping Mall의 변화과정에 따른 Mall공간
2) 대규모 복합 Entertainment Mall
3) 상업 Mall과는 관계없지만 복합화되면서 Mall의 성격을 띠는 건물군
4) 철도/공항/항만 터미널과 복합되어 있는 Mall 등이다.
둘째, 재현적 측면의 경계해체 표현의 연구대상은 탈구조적인 경계해체 디자인 양상을 띠고 있는 건축물군으로서, 후기구조주의 담론 이후의 해당양상이 보이는 건축을 연구 대상으로 한다. 즉, 해체주의 이후 디지털 및 유기적 건축경향을 보이고 있는 디자인을 추구하는 작가계열의 건축물들을 분석대상으로 한다.
연구를 진행하는 방법론은 다음과 같다.
푸코가 감옥과 병원의 감시와 통제의 진화 과정에 대한 계보학적 변천양상의 탐구를 통해 공간의 구축 이면에 놓여있는 권력의 위계를 재정의하며, 정상인과 비정상인을 나누어 억압할 수 있는 권력구조를 만들어 낸 것에 대해 고찰하여 증명한 것과 같이, 본 논문에서는 산업혁명 이후 생산시스템의 혁명적 변화 이후에 발생했던 박람회 건축과 대규모 상업아케이드, 이후 현재 현 건축공간의 Mall화 현상을 분석한다. 그리고 이것은 결국은 유연적 생산에 따른 소비의 효율화와 감시와 통제의 진화과정임을 증명한다. 본 논문은 계보학적 방법론을 차용하여 산업 혁명시기 대형박람회 공간과 아케이드로부터 현재의 상업공간이 변천과정의 이면에 작용하고 있는 감시와 통제가 효율성을 꾀하는 측면으로 진화하고 있음을 증명한다.
위의 사항에 따른 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다.
첫째, 건축공간의 경계해체적 Mall화 현상은 거시적인 틀의 통제속에 한정된 상업적 다양성을 허용하는 보편적 모더니티가 강화되는 재구조화의 산물이다.
둘째, 아케이드로부터 Mall에 이르는 유연적 재구조화의 진화과정은 거시적 관점에서 보면, 보편적 모더니티의 틀속에서 자율적 통제가 강화되는 가운데 한정된 상업적 자유와 다양성을 인정하는 방법론이 결합한 형태로서, 모더니티의 진화과정이 상업적으로 물성화된 것이다.
셋째, 공공-민간이 합작하여 개발하는 Mall은 공권력이 담당하기 힘든 자율적 통제와 치안의 요소를 담당하는 효율적 방법론이 되고 있으며, 이에 따른 진정한 의미의 사회적 Public Space의 축소의 단점으로 남게 되었다.
넷째, 탈구조적인 특성의 경계해체디자인이 Mall의 공용공간에 삽입되는 것은 마케팅적인 요소로 쓰이고 있으며 이것은 탈구조화 담론에 해당되는 내용이 보수적 상업주의와 결합한 형태이다.
다섯째, Mall의 공용공간에서 보이는 일견 탈구조적인 경계해체적 요소들은 상업적으로 자율적 통제의 목적으로 계획된 것으로, 이것은 다양하고 자유로운 듯 보이나 난해한 타자성속에 오히려 보편화되는 특성을 나타내고 있다.

The purpose of this dissertation is to study on the relationship between Border-Dismantling phenomenon in the Contemporary Architecture and the Re-organization Discourse.
Nowdays, the Representative branches(such as human knoweldge, philosophy, formative arts) and space-structure branches (such as urban-geography, regional studies, and macro-economics) shows the trends of opposed views on the phenomenon of being Mall in the architectural space which is combined with Border-Dismantling expression. In the representative sides, the de-constructive characteristics is dominant, and on the contrary, in the space-structure sides, the views of Re-organization is prevalent.
The interval of academic views and contents between macro-scopic branches (urban-geography, regional study, economics) and micro-scopic(human knoweldge, philosophy, formative art) is so steep that there is huge difficulty to figure out the whole and to analyze. Architecture is the academic branch which space-structure and representative style is combined into materialization.
This thesis is going to speculate on the relationship between the phenomenon of being insulted the characteristics of Mall which is combined with Border-Dismantling expression, and philosophical discourse(the controversy over the Modernity and Post-Modernity between Habermas and Ryotard) and I expect to figure out the phenomenon of being Mall in the contemporary Architectural space and to make the standard to understand. Speculating this aspects, this dissertation can proove the relationship of both discourse and the phenomenon and also can understand the control over the society.
In the Architectural Academic Society, the study on the Border-Dismantling phenomenon in the contemporary architecture has so many keywords in regards of this phenomenon and so many analysis standard, so there is so much confusion on this. According to the some scholars view, there is the view of unified one, not considering the classification of the space-structure and the representative style. and sometimes, there is the view whose analysis is totaly contrary with each other.
There is so many methodology in understanding the social phenomenon. In the Contemporary society, the power of the capital is used to be the fundamental dynamic, so, the relationship between the evolution process of the capital and the formation of space and expression is inseparable relationship. The architectural design part, would not be free to be agent of the power all the time because it had been a spokesman of the absolute power to be the objective of the times. Being firmly Capital-based logic, the history of the capital is paralled to the evolution of the product-consumption system. Also, the product system can be changed into the word-Control- to accumulate the capital. Namely, it is the system of the control to increase the product more effectively and flexibly.
In the system of capitalism, it can be maintained and can compete only when the circulation cycle of product-consumption accelerate, so the space and expression of the architecture should be pararelled to the cycle. In this views, the evolution process of the capital has the exact cause and effect. the evolution process of architectural space and expression can only be the views of the absolute determinism. In this view, the space-structure can not make the process so called self-organization. In the process of the variation to make the goal, it takes the organic-like flexible aspects when we see the process outside.
The accumulation system and the representative style has the inseparable relationship and it shows the suceeding change aspects. therefore, to analyze the representative style in the architecture, it is essential to make the standard to analyze which is connected with the accumulation system.
Nowdays, in the Contemporary Architecture, there is two important topic for study.
First, the phenomenon of being Mall in the field of space-structure
Second, deconstructive 'Border-Dismantling' Phenomenon of the architectural expression in the field of representative one.
Now, in the architecture, the phenomenon of being mall which is combined with the de-constructive Border-Dismantling design is mainly discussed in the field of representative views.
The trends of being Mall in the architectural space goes like this. The space of modernism is firmly classified and divided according to the functions and space. But, the contemporary architectural space is changing into the space of vast Mall which is beyond the human recognition on the limitation and border of the internal space. Almost every space is controled by the commercial Mall of consumption space. Continually, the phenomenon of the being Mall is processed all over the spaces which has lost the limitation and the direction of the space. So, the not to speak of the commercial space, the airport, station(train, bus terminal, sea port), church, education center, and what is more the army space is changing into the Mall.
Analyzing the architecture case which is added the Border-Dismantling elements in the midist of being mall, almost most of studies focused in the view of the philosophical, scientific sides(the progress of the digital tool).
What is the standard to understand the Border-Dismantling phenomenon which is prevalent in the architecutral expression? And what is the relationship with the economic evolution process? In the academic study in Architecture, what is the cause of comming out the study of different keyword on the almost same phenomenon? What is the problem on that? This study starts from these question.
According to the topic which is stated above, the outline of purpose of this dissertation goes. . .
1. To make the standard to understand the Modernity analyzing the confusion of discourse between Habermans and Ryotard.
2. To speculate the cause of the confusion in the analysis and the prevalentBorder-Dismantling phenomenon in the contemporary architecture.
3. To speculate on the relationship in the process of the comparison and analysis over the phenomenon of being Mall and Re-organization discourse.

It will be from the Arcade(exposition architecture) which had evolved the Capitalism seriously, to the Department store, and nowdays Shopping Mall and Mall like complex building. Especially, similar Mall-like space will be speculated on concentration. This study will be focused on. . .

Second, the objective of the representative Border-Dismantling sides, will be the architectural group which has the tendency of de-constructive Border-Dismantling design aspects. it will be the ones after the times of Post-structualism discourse. This study will focus on the cases of the organic-digital expressionism design trends after the Deconstructivism,
The Methodolgy of the study goes like this,
Just as the Foucault has speculate on the Power-structure in the meaning of origination to be generated of the building types such as Jail, Hospital, School, and Army buildings, This study will focus on the evolution process of commercial space from Arcade to department store to Mall. Borrowing the methodology of Geneology, this study will finally prove that it is the evolution process to make the efficiency for the consumption pararelled with the production, and efficient control.
According to the analysis stated above, the Conclusion of this study is like this.
First, phenomenon of the being Mall which is combined with the Border-Dismantling design, is the outcome of the evolution process of Modernity, which permits the limited freedom and diversity in the Macro-scopic Frame of the Control. That is the outcome that the universal Modernity has reinforced.
Second, Seeing the Macro-scopic view, the evolution process of flexible Re-organization of the Mall, is the combined forms of Methodology with the limited commercial freedom and diversity in the midist of reinforcement frame of autonomic control. That is commercially the materialization of the evolution process of the Modernity.
Third, the Mall which is developed by public-private managing collaboration is being the efficient methodology for the autonomic control and public security which is difficulty for the public power. This phenomenon results the defect of the reduction of the meaning of Public Space.
Fourth, It is used for the Marketing elements that the phenomenon of inserting the de-constructive characteristics of Border-Dismantling Design into the common use space, and this is the form which the contents of de-constructive discours is combined with the conservative commercialism
Fifth, the Border-Dismantling elements, whcih is at a glance de-constructive characteristic, are planned for the object of autonomic control. Although, looking like diversity itself, it represents rather the universalized characteristics in the midist of the incomprehensible characteristics.
