The purpose of the research is to find out how much employees working at small and medium industries with less than 300 workers, not employees at large industries and public servicemen who can be guaranteed in their retired lives, recognize the need of preparation for their retired life, and how sufficiently they prepare for old-aged economy, health, social activities, and residence, and, by solving the problems found in their preparation, to provide the basic data necessary to the decision of the policy of retired men's welfare and to the planning of their retirement.
The results of analyzing the study are as follows:
First, most of the employees with monthly income, good health, their spouse and no or less than 2 offsprings answered that the starting age of old men is the age 65. The people under the age 55 and with their spouse demanded that the retirement age should be extended.
Second, the most important thing in old age is divided in answers according to income gap. Health is most valued by large income earners, but economic power, by small income ones.
Third, Many people hope that they will work until they can afford abundant income. More people, until their age limit, and most people with smaller income, until they are healthy. Social welfare policies which are most necessary in their old age are medical care guarantee, pension, and job in order.
Fourthly, workers need to prepare for their senior lives in their thirties. National pension and retired allowance are the main source of their income in their retired lives.
Fifthly, in their economically hard times after retirement, younger workers prefer reemployment, but because of the difficulty in reemployment, older ones want to be supported by their children, but they do not want to live with their children.
Though people with large income can pay for their medical treatment in their old ages, those with small income will depend on the state or the social groups for their economical support.
Sixthly, the people in their 40's like going on travels and are interested in their hobbies. On the other hand, those in their 50's enjoy getting together with their family members and friends.
Seventhly, workers do not like to spend their retired lives in living with their children, but they like to live in chargeable houses for elder people. Old women like pay houses better than old men do.
In conclusion, middle-aged workers think that the most important thing in life is health and that they can't afford to prepare for senior life because they don't have enough income.
After retirement, they eagerly want to be reemployed, but it is not easy in reality. They have no choice but to live on only their national pension in old age, and so they are very much interested in annuity.
Consequently, social welfare policies such as improved pension system, the extension of age limit, retiring pension, medical care insurance for the old must be established by the government.
Furthermore, it is required that middle-aged workers should understand that, if they do not make sufficient preparation for their retired life, they will inevitably experience economical difficulty throughout their elderly years, spare no efforts to adapt themselves to their new and rapid-changing circumstances, and do their best to make the most of their personal pension and savings.
