아동 및 청소년의 부적응적 완벽주의와 우울의 관계에서 자기존중감의 역할 = The Role of Self-esteem in the Relationship between Maladaptive Perfectionism and Depression in Children and Adolescents

The purpose of this study was to examine the role of self-esteem in the relationship between maladaptive perfectionism and depression. And it was also examined if there were significant differences in the level of perfectionism, depression, self-esteem, depending on school level and gender. 1109 children and adolescents completed questionnaires assessing perfectionism, depression, self-esteem. The results were as follows.: First, self-esteem moderated the relationship between perfectionism and depression in children and adolescents. Second, self-esteem partially mediated the relationship between perfectionism and depression in children and adolescents. Third, there were significant differences in the level of perfectionism, depression, self-esteem, depending on school level and gender. That is, the higher the school level was, the lower the level of self-esteem was. The higher the school level was, the higher the levels of perfectionism and depression were. Fourth, there were also significant differences between gender. The levels of perfectionism and depression were higher in girls than in boys. The level of self-esteem was higher in boys than in girls. The current findings suggest that focusing on self-esteem may be effective intervention for perfectionistic adolescents who are experiencing depression.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 아동 및 청소년을 대상으로 완벽주의와 우울의 관계에서 자기존중감의 역할을 알아보고자 하였다. 또한, 학교급별 및 성별에 따라 완벽주의와 우울, 자기존중감의 차이가 있는지를 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 D시의 초 중 고등학생을 대상으로 완벽주의 척도와 우울 척도, 자존감 척도로 구성된 설문을 실시하였고, 최종적으로 1109명의 자료를 분석하였다. 완벽주의와 우울의 관계에서 자기존중감의 중재효과와 매개효과를 알아보기 위해서는 상관분석, 중다회귀분석과 구조방정식 모형을 사용하였고, 학교급별 및 성별에 따른 차이를 알아보기 위해서는 변량분석을 실시하였다. 먼저, 부적응적 완벽주의와 우울, 자기존중감은 학교급별에 따라 유의한 차이를 보였다. 즉, 자기존중감 수준은 학교급이 높아질수록 유의미하게 낮아지는 반면, 완벽주의와 우울수준은 유의하게 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 성별에 따라서도 유의한 차이를 보였는데, 완벽주의와 우울은 여학생이 남학생보다 유의하게 높았고, 자기존중감은 남학생이 여학생보다 유의하게 높은 것으로 나타났다. 부적응적 완벽주의와 우울의 관계에서 자기존중감의 역할을 살펴본 결과 자기존중감은 완벽주의와 상호작용하여 우울에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타나 자기존중감의 중재효과가 확인되었다. 또한, 완벽주의가 우울에 직접 영향을 미치면서 자기존중감을 통해서 간접적으로도 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타나 자기존중감의 부분매개 효과가 입증되었다. 본 연구의 의의는 초등학생과 중학생, 고등학생을 대상으로 완벽주의와 우울의 관계에서 자기존중감의 역할을 입증했다는 것이다. 지금까지의 완벽주의와 우울에 관한 연구들은 대부분 대학생과 성인을 대상으로 수행되었고 청소년의 경우에도 특정연령을 대상으로 하였는데, 연구대상을 확대적용하였다는 데 의의가 있다.
