알코올의존자의 초기 도움요청에서 성별 차이에 관한 연구 = Gender Differences in Help-seeking for Drinking Problems

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 알코올의존자의 도움요청에 영향을 미치는 유인 요인과 음주 관련 특성 그리고 그에 따른 성별 차이는 어떠한지 살펴보고자 하였다. 전국의 알코올상담센터와 알코올의존자 사회복귀시설, 거주시설, 알코올 병동, 정신과 병원 등의 58개 기관으로부터 수거된 설문지 중 처음으로 음주 문제로 도움을 요청한 알코올의존자 153(102명의 남성 알코올의존자, 51명의 여성 알코올의존자)을 연구대상으로 설정하였다.
연구결과에서 통계적으로 유의미한 성별 차이를 보인 내용은 다음과 같다. (1) 남성 알코올의존자의 도움요청 지연기간이 여성 알코올의존자보다 길게 나타났으며, (2) 여성 알고올의존자는 남성 알코올의존자에 비해 우울과 인생의 무의미함을 현재 문제로 보고 하였으며, (3) 남성 알코올의존자는 여성 알코올의존자에 비해 성생활 문제, 재정적 문제, 실업 등을 현재 문제로 보고하였다.
이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 성별 차이를 고려한 알코올의존자를 위한 서비스로 여성 알코올의존자에 대한 집중적인 초기 서비스의 제공, 여성 알코올의존자 개입 시 음주 문제 이전에 `우울`, `인생의 무의미함`에 초점을 둔 서비스의 제공, 남성 알코올의존자 개입 시 과도한 음주로 인한 문제인 `성생활 문제`, `실업`, `재정적 문제` 등의 이슈를 고려한 서비스 제공을 제안하였다. 또한 서비스 제공에서 가족력과 배우자의 음주 문제인식 등을 포함할 것을 강조하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In this study, we examined how gender types of alcohol dependents differentiate the alcohol-related characteristics and factors that influence help-seeking for drinking problems. The participants of interest were narrowed down to alcohol dependents who have never attended the clinic before. The sample of 153 participants (102 male and 51 female participants) was collected with support of 58 institutions such as alcohol counselling centers, community psychiatric rehabilitation and residential centers for alcoholics, alcohol hospitals and mental hospitals.
Statistically significant results are as follows: (1) male participants tended to take longer delay of help-seeking for drinking problems than female participants, (2) female participants reported depression and meaninglessness of life as their current problems more than male participants, (3) male participants reported troubles in sexual activities, finance and employment as their current problems more than female participants.
Based on the results, we suggested services for alcohol dependents considering gender differences. Intensive service for female alcohol dependents in their early stage, service focusing on depression and meaninglessness of life for female alcohol dependents, and service considering sexual activity problems, financial and employment problems for male alcohol dependents were suggested. Also we emphasized to include family history of the alcohol dependents and screening of drinking problems of the spouse in the service.
