관찰,추천을 통한 언어 영재의 선발 방안 = A Study on How to Select Gifted Students in Language through Observation and Recommendation

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aims to develop tools for selecting gifted language students through observation and recommendation and details ways of identifying linguistically talented students through continuous teacher monitoring of students in the real classroom environment. Recent drafting methods used by universities and foreign high schools for selecting talented students also employ observation and recommendation, reflecting the call for reduction in the costs of private education and improvement in the quality of public education. This selection method requires cognitive, subconscious, and even affective areas to be taken into consideration. For this reason, observation by the teachers involved is the most effective means of identifying linguistically talented students. As a primary selection resource, a Checklist for Linguistically Talented Students was developed by the researchers and is presented in this paper. In the development of this checklist, experienced teachers of Korean endeavored to identify typical characteristics of linguistically talented students, analyzing and summarizing achievement based on the 2007 Revised Korean Education Curriculum. Other teachers also reviewed this checklist for reliability and validity. Subsequent to this, the Checklist of Linguistic Talented Students was found to be significant for the following reasons. First, the checklist can be objectively utilized with ease in the real classroom environment, since it is divided into sections on the basis of Korean Education Curriculum. Second, it allows users to recognize gifted students in a variety of ways. The inclusion of affective, subconscious, and cognitive areas in the checklist broadens the likelihood of spotting target students. Third, this checklist enables teachers of Korean to simply and accurately select gifted students in the classroom. Analysis of teachers` experiences and evaluation of research studies have played a pivotal role in creating this checklist and in checking its validity. It is suggested that use of this checklist will enhance the observation and recommendation process.
