영화연기의 ‘연극적 연기’ 에 관한 연구 = 영화 <경마장 가는 길>을 중심으로

Synchronous recording, which had become mainstream by the mid-to-late 1980s, drastically changed the acting styles in the Korean film industry. This change lasted throughout the 1990s, and in the latter half of the 1990s cinematic performances in which the actors are immersed in the characters can be seen in some of the major realistic films of this time. In the history of acting styles, the concept of either separation or immersion with respect to the character and the actor has been at the core of the art of acting throughout the history of acting, where the actors try to identify with the characters during the ‘characterization’ of these characters where imitation and representation are key. Typically acting on the stage emphasized this characterization where the actor acted out the character. This has advanced with the acting style of ‘projection,’ which is done to overcome the distance with the audience. In front of the camera, in contrast, as per the characteristics of the medium, the acting style of ‘personalization’ where immersion is sought between the character and the actor has instead contributed to the realism of movies. To examine such dramatic acting styles, the movie 〈The Road to Race Track〉 by Director Jang Sunwoo was used, because despite being similar to 〈The Day A Pig Fell Into the Well〉 by Director Hong Sangsoo in terms of the cinematic form and content, the acting styles of the actors are markedly different. This study focused on examining the cinematic acting styles of Korean film in the past, rather than trying to compare these two movies specifically.
