연구논문 : "-겠-"과 "-(으)ㄹ 것이-"의 용법 비교 연구 = A Comparative Study of Usage in "-gess-" and "-(eu)l geusi"

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aims to investigate how ‘-gess-’ and ‘-(eu)l geusi-’ are differently used in terms of usage and meaning in a real discourse context. Firstly, in terms of register, while ‘-gess-’ is used differently in a formal and an informal context respectively, ‘-(eu)l geusi-’ doesn``t show any difference in register. Meanwhile, this study discovered a new usage of ‘-gess-‘ and ‘-(eu)l geusi-’ which has not been investigated from previous studies so far. That is, ‘-gess-’ is used to express ‘exaggeration’, and ‘-(eu)l geusi-’ is used to show ‘predetermination’. This difference was found through an careful investigation and analysis of the common usage, ‘assumption’ and ‘intention’ which ‘-gess’ and ‘-(eu)l geusi’ both have. Firstly, when ‘-gess-’ and ‘-(eu)l geusi-’ are used to express for ‘assumption’, ‘-gess-’ shows the speaker``s subjective assumption and is based on the situation at moment of speaking. On the other hand, ‘-(eu)l geusi-’ is used on the objective basis and when refers to the information that the speakers already has known. Secondly, when they are used to show ‘intention’, ‘-gess-’ is used to express the speaker``s strong will as well as the listener``s intention, whereas ‘-(eu)l geusi-’ is an expression of the speaker``s intention which is already decided excluding the listener``s intention. Consequently, this study suggests that when teaching grammar items with familiar usage and meaning like ‘-gess-’ and ‘-(eu)l geusi-’, the circumstantial evidence where the grammar is used and spoken be taught together.
