As the rate of obesity has increased due to improved socio-economic condition, excessive calorie intake and lack of physical activity in Korea, the range of obesity has been extended not only people in 30’s and 40’s but also in 20’s. Particularly when it comes to women in 20’s, nutrition and health are very important since they are at the age of preparing for a future pregnancy. They, however, understand an exercise positively but practically they do not work out. Hence the purpose of this study was to emphasize the proper way to exercise and importance of exercise to female in 20’s by composing combined exercise program which utilize the advantage of aerobic exercise and resistant exercise. In addition, considering precedent studies that showed the changes in blood lipids and stress hormone through exercises we figured a study on the relationship of blood lipids and hormone of female university students in 20’s was necessary, and we would like to investigate the efficacy of combined exercise with this study and to provide useful information for improving blood lipids and maintaining body fat with monitoring blood factors.
We invited 20 obese female university students (Body fat≧30%) at D university in Gyeong-Buk province, and consisted 10 for each exercise group and control group. Combined exercise program was performed 70∼90 minutes each time, 3 times a week, total 12 weeks, but excluded subjects who did not attend over 4 times or gave up for personal reasons, total 14 subjects (Exercise group: N=7, Control group: N=7) received blood test before and after exercising, and the results analyzed by Win/SPSS Ver. 12.0 conducting Paired T-test and Independent T-test were as follows.
First, the results of blood lipids analysis showed decreases of TC and TG, but neither increases nor decreases of HDL-C and LDL-C in the combined exercise pro-post exercise group. In addition, there were neither increases nor decreases of TC, HDL-C, TG and LDL-C in the control group.
Second, the results of stress hormone analysis showed increases of Cortisol but no decreases of ACTH in the combined exercise pre-post exercise group. In addition, there were neither increases nor decreases of Cortisol and ACTH in the control group.
Third, the results of blood lipids analysis between groups showed no difference in TC, HDL-C, TG and LDL-C before exercising, but there were differences in TG between the exercise group and the control group after exercising. In addition, the results of stress hormone analysis showed no differences in both Cortisol and ACTH before exercising but there were differences in Cortisol after exercising.
To sum up above results, there were positive changes in blood lipids(TC, TG) after exercising, and it was confirmed between groups that stress hormone (Cortisol) was increased by combined exercise. Thus, it is found that the prevention of cardiovascular disease, increased use of fat and an increment of Cortisol had a positive effect on adaptability to a stimulus via improvement on blood lipids and stress hormones of obese female university students who performed 12 weeks of combined exercise in this study. Furthermore, we expect to provide more valuable information for improving blood lipids and maintaining body fat through conducting more scientific and detailed program targeted various age groups besides in 20’s.
