The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the NIE(Newspaper In Education) class on the development of creativity of the pre-school children. To achieve this purpose, the 60 children were sampled in the city of Gyeongju and divided into the experimental group and the control one. The NIE program had been applied to the regular class for the experimental group 4-5 times a week for 6 weeks. To support the research hypothesis, the data, the average of the pretest and the posttest, were analyzed by the t-test.
The major finding of this study are as follows:
Firstly, there were statistically significant differences between the experimental group and the control group on the total scores of the posttest taken to see the effect of the NIE program on creativity of the children.(t=1.928, p<.05)
Secondly, the result of the posttest done to know the effect of the NIE program on the subcategories of creativity showed that there was statistically significant difference between the two groups on the score of fluency(t=2.734, p<.05), originality(t=1.949, p<.05) and imagination.(t=2.268, p<.05) However, this program didn't have a significant influence on the score of adaptability.(t=.682, p<.05)
Finally, the result of the posttest taken to find out the effect of the NIE program on creativity explained that there was statistically significant difference between the two groups on the score of language domain.(t=5.263, p<.05) But, there was no statistically significant difference between the experimental group and the control one on the score of the figure domain(t=-.986) and physical domain.(t= 1.280)
In conclusion, this study showed that the NIE program improved significantly the subcategories of creativities of the children such as fluency, originality, imagination, and language domain.
