Abstract
In the beginning of the 20th century, there were many aspects of change in respect of politics, economy and society through the World War I․II. This also affected music, there were various works made by the attempts to escape from that depressed atmosphere.
The mode of the beginning of the 20th century reached the peak of subjectivity, characteristic of romanticism, and emotional expression, at the same time, the composers emerged, who were interested in new musical language, e.g. new system of tonality, chord progress, and discord, etc.
One of the German composers in the 20th century, Hans Werner Henze(1926-2012) is a composer who mastered various genres. He adopted modern technique, covering romanticism orchestral music of latter romanticism, Serialism, and naturalism. Initially, he composed neoclassic music of Igor Stravinsky(1882-1971) style. However, later on he adopted Serialism by 12-tone technique, and attempted various ways including expressionism of Arnold Schönberg(1874-1951) or Alban Berg(1885-1935) and Jazz.
Through an internet news, I heard a news about Henze, who passed away in 2012. Lots of media praise, as one, his excellent musical talent by calling him as 'Master of German musical play', 'The most talented and influential composer'.
Many works of various genres are performed, however, it is true that he did not have much attention and has not become known compared to other masters of modern musical world. This paper analyzed and considered his musical language and musical world which he pursued, through his representative work, 「el cimarron」(1970), which contained his political orientation, and reconfirmed his value in modern music. Before analyzing the work, the researcher is going to search for his life and world of his works, and investigate the opportunity to form his political orientation and how it was reflected in his music, and musical characteristic according to composing skill. Then, the researcher aimed at comprehending the background of 「el cimarron」 and overall flow of the music, and researching it concretely.
